Grading issue re: WBC slaughter rule
In the Puerto Rico / US WBC game, the slaugher rule was invoked when the score was 11-1. The game halted in the 8th inning.

Most books require a full game for action on a totals bet. I would think this game has action though, since the rules consider this a full game when slaughter is invoked.

How would you grade a totals wager on that game? and why?

It's poor form that the book hadn't got a ruleset for this event, but if the rules state that all baseball games must go 8.5, then you're probably duty bound to follow the rules and void totals (That said, bets on unders in this tournament with those rules would have had decent EV, so how have they graded under bets?)

Spirit of the rules would say that slaughter games are full games with full action. I'd only grade the other way if the book has explicit rules that force it to call the game no-action. But the fact that runlines have the same rule, and there have been games with lines like -10.5 suggests no-actioning is pretty silly.

Everybody I've used has said that mercy rule is action on all bets. Some friends had an issue with a C-level shop that had no explicit WBC rules, but even they graded the runline bet as action after less than a day.

In the WBC you can win by 15 runs in the first 6 innings. I think barring special WBC rules the 8.5 innings rule has to stand. Now, there should be special WBC rules but if they have not been created the letter of the rules really does seem like the correct and fair move.

CRIS books grade mercy rule games with full action on ML, RL and totals.

Since so many books copy their lines penny for penny, I would assume many follow their lead on their rules.
