i agree with selling some to lock in profits, but this idea of "zomg it's up 1200%" so it must crash, is ridiculous. Guess what, early google investors were up 1200%, then it IPOd and went up another 700% - same with Cisco Systems and others.

We are still very much near the beginning of the global, distributed currency/commodity revolution. Bitcoin may not be the final answer, it may be Bitcoin2 or something new - but the fact is the cat is out of the bag, the genie is out of the bottle, and the bell cannot be un-rung. Networked and distributed, proof-of-work blockchain-based accounting is simply a revolution.

They cant. Do you understand how bitcoin works? The system was designed with this sort of thing in mind, of course they would try regulate it, thats why the system was designed to not be regulated.

This has to do with the opening of Coinbase in North America replacing Mt Gox for North Americans. They can, if they so choose to, shut down and/or regulae the exchange, but they can not shut down bitcoin, do your homework.

Will this impact the price? Maybe, but North America has not has a proper exchange on its soil and it has never really seemed to matter.

Do your homework before you fear monger, pal.

the new ticket is investing in LITECOIN. bought in last week at .80 a share. Mtgox 'informally' announced that they are considering it on the exchange. users checked the back end of the site and found a LTC/USD ticker.
Since then the price peaked at $5.5 this morning and is currently trading at $4.9

beautiful day all around.

Congrats Trackrec! I played around last night with getting my miner to mine LTC, but its a totally different beast that beat me down after 2 hours of tinkering. But I haven't given up.

. This run up tells us that buying bitcoins was the correct answer up to this point, but for the future, who knows.

The only thing I can tell you is that mining BTC is pretty rough right now. At this point in time, new mining money is better off getting in line to buy an ASIC. The GPU days are almost up.

I wouldn't either. I'm happy with this run... but even though it's not really my fault, it's hard not to get down on myself for not holding on to every bitcoin i ever mined :/.

Are those machines worth it? I think Butterfly Labs is the one company, but all there machines are waiting to ship out...

They are worth every penny if you can get your hands on one. Three companies announced they were going to produce Asics. bASIC, BFL, and Avalon. bASIC shut down with everyone's money and is slowly trying to refund what they can, BFL has been delayed from October to November to December to January to February to March to April, and Avalon began shipping their first batch about a month ago.

I'll put it to you this way. I paid $1200 (since i paid in BTC, that actually cost me $15k+ in opportunity cost) for mine that I'm still waiting for. If i got it today, it would be knocking out 4.5BTC a day. (Much more if i got it months ago, but difficulty has gone through the roof since Avalon was the first to ship.. and it's only going to get worse). So.. is it worth it? If you can get one soon

. But more than likely you can't, you'll probably be on a 6 month waiting list. The only confirmed one that got sold in the used market was @ 20k a few weeks back.

Of course I'm not complaining about the current BTC price as someone who holds a few, but I do think the current conditions do create a "bubble" scenario since "real" value is created by confidence and transactions, whereas fake value is created by speculation and deflation due to hoarding.

I suspect the latter two factors are more responsible for the current price than the former. But I guess it's possible that there will continue to be enough real transactions using BTC to stave off hyperdeflation and keep the bubble from popping.

If it does pop, oh well, the price will correct, but the long-term prospects are still good.
