    internship at a bookmaker
    Hello together,

I am a 20 year old student from Switzerland. I am studying Business Administration in 4th semester at the university of st. Gallen and I'm very interested in sports betting with all of his aspects like statistics probabilities and sport of course.

My aim is to do an internship abroad(USA or Great Britain) at a bookmaker. Because in Switzerland there is a monopoly for bookmakers and I want to improve my English. Does anyone have some experience with internships at a bookmaker? How should I best apply? I visited some homepages of the big bookies but nobody has anything written about internships.

    Thank you for your help.

    Best wishes!

    Hedi,

I commend your efforts and it would do this industry well to have actual grad students take away the " mob " mentality out of the business , and not have shops managed by guys with tattoos that talk about hookers.

    Good luck

Maybe not quite what you are looking for but City Index (spreadbetters) have an intern programme, although currently closed.

Search for Top UK online books and contact them individually. You might be able to find something at a brick and mortar book in Vegas if you are lucky. But my guess is it won't be really what you are looking for.

Your best option is a book in the UK. Here in North America you would not find Internships. Working in North America you could apply for a CSR job and work your way up. Problem is they pretty much hire anyone so you would have to get one when they look for a specific language like german. If you don't speak big market languages like spanish, german, chinese then you won't have a chance. Any position higher then CSR is promoted within or you have years of experience. If you get into a company in Europe and they have an office in North America you can ask to get transferred over for a year to learn and they might do that. Some have in past provided you pay your own stuff and visas unless your a top person (Manager, Director, ETC) Other then that start from bottom and work your way up. Gaming is a great industry and once you have the experience many doors open.

You shouldnt look for work with bookmakers, instead seek internship with stats companies that supply books with information. Although I have to say these companies will likely have you do some stats collection job and you may never see how they do the calculations that they sell to bookies because you will not stay with them for a long time. But thats likely better than what a sportsbook will give you.

            Best of luck to you!

Did you consider a semester at University Nevada Las Vegas, maybe they have exchange student program? But at least call them. Nevada is your best bet.

I've also been interested in this.

Your best bet is go to the Uk

Finding work in nevada probably too tough.

Most of the UK bookmakers have moved this type of work to Gibralter or outsourced it as Nova99 says.

However, Paddy Power have offered internships in the past so have a look at http://www.workwithpaddy.com/ or http://www.facebook.com/paddypowerjobs
