#1879Some early plays for weekend in Ligue 1:
Bastia PK @ -105 at home to Nice;
Nice will be without key player and top-scorer Cvitanich (20 apps, 12 goals) as he's out for a couple of weeks so I have to back the home team PK at almost Even odds. Bastia haven't been good recently and have really struggled to score goals which is a big concern, however, they were reasonably solid at home before the winter break, and had beaten likes of Bordeaux, Lorient, Nancy, Reims, and Troyes. They were also able to get a point away at Nice even with Cvitanich playing and scoring back in September.
Ajaccio PK @ +108 away at Brest;
Brest was a side that I backed a couple of times earlier in the season when they were playing at home as they were very difficult to beat on their own turf for the first few months winning 5 and drawing 1 out of their first 6 home matches. However, since beginning of December Brest have lost 5 home games on the bounce. Granted these losses have been to some of the highest ranked teams in Ligue 1 in St Etienne, PSG, Montpellier, Marseille and Nice, but still it is very concerning considering how difficult they were to beat before December. This bad run has partially been down to injuries and the African Nations and not having good enough depth to replace important players. One of the main reasons why I faded Brest in their last home game against Nice was due to the departure of key player and top-scorer Ben-Basat who joined Toulouse on last day of transfer window. They have replaced him with Gueye on loan from Everton, but although he's a useful and dangerous player, I can't see him scoring the amount of goals that Ben-Basat did in the first half of the season. Plus, it's going to be even harder to score goals against Ochoa who is proving to be one of the top goal-keepers in the league with his recent performances so far this year.
Ajaccio on the other hand have been is superb form since the start of the New Year going unbeaten and getting excellent results against PSG (0-0 draw away) and most recently two home wins against Lyon and Bordeaux. It does seem that Ajaccio tend to raise their game against the better teams in the league, as they've also beaten Toulouse 4-2 away and Nice 1-0 away, and also drew 0-0 against PSG at home and 0-0 against St Etienne at home. Where they have struggled is when playing away from home managing just 2 wins which is why I'll resist going as big as I initially wanted to on this play. They've also picked up a solid signing in Matthieu Chalme from Bordeaux who offers a lot of much needed experience and quality at right wing-back - a position where Ajaccio have been rotating different players in like Lippini, Maire, and Fouseni Diawara and found no consistent stability. Ajaccio have also got a great track record against Brest having never lost in 11 encounters, winning 6 of them. Also, the track record shows that the games between these two are usually very tight and low-scoring with 8 out of the 11 games having no more than 2 goals scored in them. That is why the Under 2 is perhaps unsurprisingly set at +118.Comment -

#1880Added Yeovil PK @ -173 at home to Preston North End.
My reasoning for this play is pretty much the same as my reasoning for playing them away at Oldham last week (game was postponed due to snow). This time Yeovil are at home, and Preston are a side that have lost 3 and drawn 1 of their last 4 games in the league. They also have a number of players out due to injury/suspension including defenders Laird (19 apps, 4 goals), Bailey-Wright (24 apps, 1 goal); midfielders Joel Byrom (20 apps, 2 goals), Mousinho (14 apps, 1 goal), Jack King (22 apps, 3 goals); and striker Beavon (22 apps, 5 goals).
Yeovil PK @ +103 away at Oldham in League One...
Tonight we have the most in-form team playing away at Oldham who happen to have the worst form in the league. Yeovil have won 5 league games on the bounce and managed to beat three promotion-rivals in a row in Sheff Utd, MK Dons, & Brentford. They have a quality partnership up front and a solid balance of youth and expierence with in-form 22 year old Madden who has netted 7 goals in last 4 games, and 33 year old Hayter who has 8 goals in 28 appearances so far this season and has been banging goals in for years at this level. Oldham meanwhile have lost 8 out of their last 9 league games, and I feel are ultimately being slightly over-valued because of their shock Cup wins against Notts Forest and Liverpool. They sacked Manager Paul Dickov at weekend so a youth coach will be in charge tonight. Oldham have some decent players and have signed Barnard from Southampton who can score goals at this level, but they will be missing M'Changama (16 apps, 1 goal), and Smith (24 apps, 3 goals) tonight. Their is a pitch inspection due shortly as a result of the snow that fell last night up North but it should be fine once cleared away. I wouldnt be surprised if Oldham push for it to be postponed though seeing as they don't have a Manager at moment and team is unsettled!Comment -

#1883Kinda regretting this play but have Santa Fe Bogota @ +114 away at Real Garcilaso in Copa Libertadores tonight.
Garcilaso have lost some of the key players that got them in to the Copa Libertadores in the first place. Important defenders Emiliano Ciucci (27 apps, 4 goals), Fernando Alloco (43 apps, 3 goals), and Eduardo Uribe (44 apps, 3 goals) have all departed, and also two important attacking players left the club in Ramon Rodriguez (42 apps, 10 goals), & top goal-scorer Andy Pando (43 apps, 27 goals). The players that Garcilaso have bought in to replace these player are IMO not at the same level as those that left. For instance in attack they've signed an Argentine in Ramua who has only scored some goals in the Primera A division in Colombia, they've signed Montes who is a very useful striker from Juan Aurich but he is not prolific averaging about 6 goals a season for past 6 years. Other signings like Virgilio Ferreira and Jesus Rey have also not got the most impressive of goal-scoring records at previous clubs.Comment -
