it wasnt normal dude, was a classic Beckham type stamp-like tackle. He barely touched the player but the intent was there, it was only cos the player backed out that he did go straight down his knee/shin. He's done it before when he's been fired up. Not a lot of people realise how dirty a player Beckham is. yeah I didnt think it looked bad initially either. But the slow-mo you can see how his leg came down in a raking motion. I've seen him do it before for LA and Real MAdrid when frustrated. It's partly because he's not a natural tackler, have to remember that he used to be a winger and only converted to deep lying midfielder when he lost the bit of pace he had towards tail-end of his Madrid career. Central Coast Mariners' hopes of Kashiwa Reysol fielding a weakened side in Tuesday's Asian Champions League clash have been dashed with the Japanese side pulling a shock and bringing out their best squad.
Having already qualified for the knockout phase of the tournament after wrapping up first place last week, Kashiwa were widely expected to field a largely reserve team for the match at Bluetongue Stadium.
Adding to that expectation was the fixturing of two key J-League matches either side of their continental commitments, last Friday against first-placed Omiya Ardija, which they lost 4-0, and next Monday's match against second-placed Yokohama F. Marinos.
But Kashiwa have arrived with their full complement of stars, headlined by their gun Brazilian trio Cleo, Leandro Domingues and Wagner.
It's a bitter blow for the Mariners, who were slaughtered 3-1 by a rampant Kashiwa side when the two teams met last month.
“They've brought their best team and clearly they're pretty motivated to win after what happened against Omiya, so we have to be ready for that,” coach Graham Arnold said on Monday.
“They're an exceptional team and we saw that last time. They've got a 4-2-2-2 system that's very dangerous and, in Domingues, they've got a sensational player. He was the difference last time and he's the one who makes them tick.”
