I saw the first 30 or so minutes of Bayern up to Robben's chip. I'm not sure if it was Bayern in humilation mode or Hamburg's defence just being crap

Hamburg's got a damn pourous d, that's for sure. 12/18 in GA last year, and worst GA for a top half club. I was expecting 3-1, 3-2, 2-2, or something of the sort. Impressed with Bayern's d.

And in 2.Bundesliga, last week Fürth went up 2-0 and was that way at half. Frankfort won 3-2 in full.

- Bayern will beat Zürich regardless of what squad they send out and at what site the play. I'm pretty confident about this one even though it's in Zürich.
- That said, with two goals in the bank, I see Bayern resting beat up guys like Robben, Ribéry, and Gómez. Zürich will be pushing, but I still see a clean sheet, even if HJB is in net. Worst case, Zürich scores one, FCB scores two and it's a push. If I had to guess, I'd say this would be a 1-0 or 2-0.
- Zagreb torched Malmö at home 4-1 last week, so Malmö will be pushing. But Zagreb wants to get back to the group stage for the first time since the 90s, and they have the firepower to do so. I want to say Malmö pulls it off in a high-scoring affair, but I could see this easily being a 2-2 draw.
- Maybe it's just remembering the 2-2 draw APEOL had with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but APEOL is a solid team and always has a raucous home crowd. I'd say the 12th man pulls them past the Poles and into group.

If I had to pick winners in each match, I'd go all home teams, except Bayern over Zürich. So APOEL, Genk, Malmö, Villarreal, and Bayern. I may do a parlay, but I'm pretty sure there will be one draw, again 2-2 in the Zagreb-Malmö match just seems likely. Again, I really wanted to put money on Malmö and keep the Scandinavian pride alive. Then I looked at doing x5 on Odense for the hell of it, but Villarreal will mean business this time and will be at home. Ohh well, there's always FCK, but they're playing Plzeň, and Plzeň makes damn good beer. Decisions, decisions. That's for tomorrow, though.

Solid day, Bayern didn't let me down with their 1-0 victory. Surprised Ribéry lasted the whole match. Robben sat out and Gómez only played a half though, so maybe Franck takes 'Lautern off. APOEL had a good showing at home, and only Zagreb/Malmö let me down. Proud of Malmö for getting a clean sheet though; bummer they couldn't get one last goal to make the group play.

As an aside, I hit my 'for fun' parlay. Obviously didn't make that much, since it was straight favourites.

- I like Lyon and Rubin for the over as both teams have great potential to score gunning for entrance onto the big stage. Lyon has had 1-1, 1-1, and 2-2 domestically, and Kazan has has some dynamite offensive potential. And despite being tied for 3rd best in goals against in the RPL, Rubin showed that they can't handle Lyon's offense in the first. I think Kazan goes all out for goals and may get a couple, and Lyon will counterattack for a couple.
- I like Benfica a lot because, although Twente is a tough out, they performed well on the road and are in Portugal for this one. Benfica wants to get back to group and I see no reason why they wouldn't do it at home. Biggest reason I don't like this more is I cannot find more favourable odds.
- København is a nice little squad that always has the potential to shock bigger teams. Unfortunately, they throw up stinkers at home to lesser teams, as they did last week to Plzeň. Coach Nilsson is ready to go all out to grab the aggregate lead, but like in Lyon, Plzeň could land a few counterattacks.
- Sturm Graz should win this battle of mid-tier national champions. No question, historically BATE is the bigger and more successful club, acing their domestic, and Sturm just lost a top striker. However, Sturm fought with moxie in the first match for a road draw, and they're coming home to a crowd that will push them into the group stage, which they haven't been to in a decade. And Manuel Weber is underrated. Again, logic says BATE, intangibles say Sturm Graz. Arnold Schwarzenegger is from Graz.

As you can see, I can't trust Arsenal on the day. Typically Arsenal with a plus sign against a lesser side is a sure bet. But they've had a bad start in the EPL and didn't have the greatest result at home against Udinese. I could see Arsenal winning 5-0 or Udinese sending them to the Europa Leage 2-0.

A Bundesliga early look would be:
- I like Hamburg at home, after an embarassing loss to Bayern, against a depressingly-bad Köln squad.

Yeah, I know, I know Rubin were two down aggregate, thus needed to win by two to move on. They should have, and were expected to, attack more, leading to more goal opportunities, and thus leading Olympique to more counter opportunities. I also expected the crowd to push more and lead them to, at the very least, a 2-1 victory. However, the Rubin side simply looked content with with being relegated to the Europa League. And they're under-achieving in the RPL, too. I was just expecting much more effort from them in a big game and force Lyon to do much more than sleepwalk to the group stage.

Loss of 10x isn't a terrible day, but it's certainly a bad day. Like I said, my plays today were weaker today compared to yesterday, as noted by the multipliers. I'm most surprised by the Rubin effort tonight. I just watched the last 20-30 again, and Medvedev really wanted it and was robbed by Lloris on at least two glorious chances. Feel bad for him and bad for Rubin, but they should've played the whole game like the closing minutes. Good for Lyon. Also good for BATE making it to the group stage again. I rooted hard for Sturm, and even though logic said otherwise, I thought I saw a spark in the last game that for some reason wasn't present at home. Benifica got me some money back, but I bet low due too poor odds and Twente's upset potential. And Plzeň waited until the last moment to hit the third goal of the game. But no FCK in the group stage means no Scandinavian team in group.

Arsenal match was a tonne of fun. I made a friendly wager with a friend on the over and Arsenal and won them both. But all-in-all what a good game. Even though I was 'somewhat' on Arsenal, I wanted Udinese to win today because the Gunners are one sketchy squad this year. Di Natale was on his game today, but Szczęsny had an answer for every attempt except the one. Add in a solid 69' goal by Walcott and a there's some happy Britons. Granted, this was the only match I could catch with spot reports from other matches, but this a damn fun match.

Hopefully with Bundesliga, and a couple easy-to-call matches in other leagues, this thing will get back on track. But +19.5 on the Champions League plays for two days? I suppose I'll take it.

It's going to be an ugly defense for Stuttgart with Delpierre and Niedermeier injured, and Khalid suspended. So Hertha could get some goals, and I like Cacau getting one on Kraft. So I'm now thinking the over, plus maybe Hertha to win or Hertha PK.

- I go with Hertha in this match due to the injuries and suspension VfB has racked up. I eyed the PK play, but I typically don't like teams going for their third draw in a row, so I went strong with the win. Hertha's strong with a lot of Bayern castoffs and wants to say in the Bundesliga. They need this win against a beat-up Stuttgart team, and I think they take it at home.
- Ajax has scored 11 and allowed 4 in 3 games, and Vitesse has scored 6 and allowed 1 in 3. It's no wonder this is at 3.5 in most places now. Ajaz has allowed some goals to basement dwellers and Vitesse has shown the can score. Obviously, I'm betting Ajax pours them on at home and Vitesse answers with at least one or two.

Typically not a fan of Hertha, but Stuttgart's underachieving and their projected lineup is rough. Try to avoid Eredivisie, but Ajax and the over are typically made for each other. Hopefully these plays start the weekend off right.

I think Kraft is crap, whilst his opposite number Ulreich has potential to get into the Germany squad one day. Maza's looked solid and Molinaro will provide balls from the left that Kraft will no doubt make a clanger with. Kvist will run the show from midfield whilst Kuzmanovic and Harnik's runs from midfield will get them in behind a Bundesliga 2 defence. Gentner's a bit selfish but with the number of shots he's bound to have he can cause a mistake from Kraft to lead to a goal.

All valid points, for sure. Ulreich has been brilliant this year, and I too think he may get quite a few caps for the national team someday. But for tonight, he's basically playing behind a 2.Bundesliga defense that I'd argue is as bad or worse than Hertha. And I think Adrián Ramos is a solid little forward. I'm also not as down on Kraft as a lot of people are. Did not think Van Gaal should've made him the starter last year, but he had that damn good match against Inter last year (admittedly not the best of Inter squads). But with VfB's attackers against Hertha's defense, I wouldn't be surprised if the over hits. However, all I'm thinking right now is that Hertha pulls this one off.

Thanks for the kind words, but I'm pretty sure I just got lucky today. The Eredivisie play looked terrible after a 0-0 first half and Hertha squeaked it out with four minutes to go. I was feeling zero for two at the end of the half, but I would've stood by my reasoning and called myself some choice names. Glad it turned out for the better. Been doing well with football and a smattering of baseball plays. Then I got lazy and flat out tailed people yesterday in NFL and baseball and lost 5%. Put me about even on the week. So, I'm sure you know the drill, tail with caution.

So obviously, had a pretty good day in football, hitting both bets. But the Ajax match had me doubting until the second half, and Hertha took their precious time getting one. Add into the fact I did some poor tailing in baseball and NFL and I went down 30x, for a net day of -0.45%. (sigh) Need to learn my lesson and stay away from sports I don't know, no matter who you're tailing, and stick with sports I know: tennis, football, and hockey. - Köln continues to look like an ugly, ugly squad. Hamburg are livid after that Bayern loss and will now be at home. Petrić and Guerrero returning should help out the Hamburg attack, too against a team that is sorely missing Michael Rensing. A healthy Podolski could chip in a goal for Köln, too, which leaves the over as a solid possibility to hit.
- Hoffenheim and Bremen have scored 20 goals in six meetings, so historically speaking, this is a safe bet. Add in the fact Bremen is coming off that 5-3 game with their attacking style, things are looking good, and Hoffenheim is better than Freisberg.

Right now, in my state of tiredness, that's what I see right now. 'Lautern plays Bayern well at home and has a great history at home. So I am considering a small 5x bid on 'Lautern with a parlay hedge including a Bayern win. Nuremberg/Augberg, you typically go with Nuremberg, but Nuremberg is beat up (5 starters down) and Augsberg has been impressive in their short Bundesliga tenure. I'll probably eventually go with Nuremberg, but I'll sleep on it. Freiburg/Wolfsberg is a battle of two poor teams. Wolfsberg is healthy, Freiberg is at home, so, again, tough to say. The over looks promising with both teams allowing their fair share and Freiberg averaging 2 per.

As for the main event, or as bundesliga.de calls it: "Duell der Bender", I can't see a winner between BVB and Leverkusen. Götze joins Barrios and Kehl out for Dortmund, whereas Bayer looks relatively healthy, and is at home. I'd give Bayer a slight advantage, but would be tempted to play the PK or even a straight draw play on this one. Under seems to be a strong play, as both are good on the back end, but following dual 1-0 scores for Leverkusen, I wonder if the floodgates are about to fall off one way or the other.

Again, not many calls. There's a few plays I like and may make before kickoff, but will sleep on them. Haven't even gotten around to other leagues, just kind of beat after a busy week.

Well I slept through today's matchups. Working a 36er does that. Looks like Hamburg let me down, but good for Köln for actually pulling out the win on the road. Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim wasn't as high scoring as I had expected, but at least it hit the over. Plus 8.5 is better than down though.

I did post 5x on my leans mentioned in the previous post, though, with hopes of bumping 'sure things' when I awoke and didn't do it, obviously. Köln/Hamberg over hit, Lautern win missed (I know, I know), Nürnberg win hit, Wolfsberg/Freiberg over hit, and the BVB/Leverkusen draw remains to be seen. Plus, I leaned on Aston Villa to win and lost that. So my leans were 3-2, with one to be seen. So, again, not the best.

- Not 100% sold on Hannover winning at home, but after Mainz's week last week, I'm giving it a lean. Figured I'd post it, since I didn't post them yesterday. Solid shot to hit the over, too. PK may have been a safer play, both teams are doing well and should match up well.
- Schalke has hit the over every match this season and I see it continuing against a very good M'Gladbach club. M'gladbach is coming off a four goal game and Schalke is coming off of nine goals in two games. Both teams have good, but not stellar defenses/keeping, that can allow a couple. What better winnings? o3 looks to be at +130 and should be at a decent chance to hit, too.
- ManU is playing a god-awful Arsenal squad that has a couple players out on red cards, and Real needs to start off the season strong to stay withing striking distance of Barca. Against Zaragoza, I say chances are good. Probably a popular play this Sunday to parlay the two favourites into a decent card.
