One goal in the first 5 minutes. Another in the last 10 minutes, 1-1 draw. Blah.

PLAY #7: [MLS] FC Dallas vs. Real Salt Lake UNDER 2.5 [-117]
Two things working in favor of a potential under here. First, Real Salt Lake is not the same scoring machine on the road that they can be at home. RSL has tallied 20 home goals this season in 8 matches compared to 7 in 7 away matches. Secondly, FC Dallas has played to totals of two goals or less in 9 of their last 10. They have also kept clean sheets in 3 of their last 4 at home. FC Dallas' home matches average just a shade over 2 goals, while RSL's road matches average just under 2 goals.

Ahh. I don't keep track of that competition. Hard to cap in my estimation because you never know who is going to be in the lineup.

                        PLAY #8: [Finland Veikkausliiga] HAKA +0.5/+1 [-110]
HAKA is at TPS in this one and it's an interesting clash of home vs. road. TPS has just one win at home in league play, that coming against top notch Honka in their home opener. Since, TPS has two draws and three straight losses. HAKA has won twice on the road, lost three and scored one draw. Except for their 4-2 loss to Honka, their other losses were by a single goal. And the Honka match they probably deserved better with the score tied at 2-2 into the 82nd minute when they conceded a 3rd goal and then a 4th in the 87th minute. TPS is going to have one eye ahead to Europa League qualification this week, so they may field some different parts in their starting eleven today, knowing that they are just a simple home draw away from advancing through to the next stage in the qualification process. HAKA's main problem on the road has been defense where they have allowed 11 goals, third worst in the league. TPS could help as they are tied for the 2nd fewest goals scored at home with just 5. For me in this spot, TPS hay be happy to work a draw with the EL qualis as their bigger prize this coming week while HAKA if they can find the back of the net as they have been prone to do on the road may be equal to taking the point on the road and going home satisfied.

PLAY #9: [Brazil Serie A] Corinthians vs. Atletico Mineiro OVER 2.5/3 [-105]
Mineiro has had some major issues defensively. They have allowed the 2nd most goals in Serie A this season with 18 allowed in 8 matches, 10 of those coming in just 3 away matches. Mineiro has been solid from an offensive standpoint, failing to score just twice in 8 matches as their offense tries to keep pace with their defense. All but one of Mineiro's matches in Serie A have hit for at least three goals with 5 of them hitting for 4 or more. Corinthians have tallied multiple goals in 3 of 4 home matches, while keeping two clean sheets. Overall, Corinthians have scored at least two goals in 6 of 8 matches this season. Expecting Corinthians to enjoy facing a less testy defense than they did last time in Ceara. Corinthians are dangerous all over the pitch with 11 different goal scorers this season. Saving a little juice by taking the split line of 2.5/3 over the flat 2.5 line which is running -136.

PLAY #10: [CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUALIFICATION] Jeunesse Esch +1/+1.5 [-117]
The Luxembourg outfit will feel confident as they host the 2nd leg of this tie on the heels of only a 1-0 loss to Sweden's AIK. Their home stadium could very well help them out as well with it being smaller than the Swedes are used to. The Lux side has said as much that they believe the smaller pitch will help keep AIK from operating in space where they can be dangerous. With AIK protecting a 1-0 lead, they certainly will be looking for an away goal that would likely key their advancement. They also will feel confident that Esch never really threatened them offensively, so if they hold them down early ... the game could get a stale feel to it. As with all these CL qualis, would suggest caution as most clubs have not played in their domestic leagues yet and their form can be difficult to pick up from just the 1st leg of this competition.

PLAY #11: [FRIENDLY] Schalke vs. LASK Linz OVER 3 [-144]
High chalk here, but LASK Linz appears just as hapless defensively as they did last year in Austria's Bundsliga. They yielded 5 goals in their opening match, giving up three penalty kicks - which is unheard of and toting two red cards from that. Schalke is in the midst of their preparations for their domestic season which begins in August. Schalke has tallied 16 goals in their last four prep matches, while conceding just two. Linz gutted most of last year's team from what I've read, so they are adjusting to new parts this season. The defense already looks lost and expect an organized German side to take advantage. Schalke should get at least enough themselves to earn a push here. If Linz scores, this should get over.

Shamrock Rovers & Bnei Yehuda Tel Aviv played the 2nd leg of their EL qualifying tie. It's 1-1 after the 1st leg with the Israelis holding the all important away goal. The Irish side has made a point of using the potential next opponent in the EL as a motivator for winning this tie. The winner draws famous Italian side Juventus and Shamrock Rovers officials have built that up to be a historic meeting if they can get there. Shamrock had a little trouble with Yehuda's slow down tactics in the first meeting and used an injury time goal to equalize late, although they did have some quality chances throughout. Seeing as the Irish visitors need at least to score a goal to have a shot at progression, I would expect them to again probe the Israelis and look for their opportunity to get a lead and try to defend. Shamrock is unbeaten in their last 14 matches [including Premier League play] and haven't lost by more than a single goal since March. Will wait to see if the juice gets reduced a little bit, but I think the Irish side has a realistic shot of earning a draw today and so long as they don't open up too much, they should stay within a goal's difference in a loss.

Toronto has the best home defensive numbers in the league this season. They have allowed just 3 goals in 8 home matches this season. Their offense has not been very good either with just 11 goals in those home matches and four of them coming in one match. Of late, Toronto has scored a goal in each of their last three matches, but has just two goals in their last four at home. F.C. Dallas has played to two goal totals or less in 5 of their 7 away matches and in 11 of their last 12 overall. It will be interesting to see what number wins out today as Dallas has scored in all 7 of their road matches, while Toronto has not conceded in 5 of 7 at home. This one has the look of a 1-0 or 1-1 type of match.

The handicap here seems a bit large considering Chivas will be hoping its younger players are ready to step up and assume scoring responsiblities this season in the absence of Javier Hernandez who moved on to Manchester United. Their 2nd leading goal scorer, Omar Bravo, signed with MLS. Puebla meanwhile have been active in the Super Liga having advanced out of group play. They won twice on the road and then dropped a 1-0 decision to the Houston Dynamo when they got a chance to play some younger players and rest their legs for tonight's season opener. Puebla is also replacing a big time scorer this season with Herculez Gomez moving on to Pachuca. With some legit competition already under their belts, I'm going to take a shot that Puebla earns a result on the road against a Chivas squad that may have to find its identity before it begins to find results.
