It's a mystery why Rooney did not perform to his usual standard. O.k. he has been injured, but he was reported to be 100% fit and was expected to make his mark in the finals.
He wasn't the only England player to disappoint, though. England supporters feel well let down.

I have been saying Rooney is overrated for the past 3 years. People fukking putting Rooney in the top 5 and a lot of people telling me he will win FIFA Player of the year this year?

If I wasn't too lazy I would go bump all the threads where I talked shit about Rooney during the Manchester season.

He's a top 5 striker in the world, very good player, that's it. He'll never win FIFA world player award. He'll never be in the discussion for best player in the world.

Rooney isn't overrated. he simply can't be overrated if he manages to score 26 goals in one premier league season and over 100 goals before his 25th birthday. a dip in form doesnt mean a thing once he regains it though he will show the world once again how good he is.

Any decent first rate striker playing at the front alone for Man U would be able to bag a shitload of goals. The supporting cast behind him provided opportunities for him. Granted he excels in that system, but so would any striker worthy of playing at a top class club. He was found out playing for England.

England is VERY overrated as a soccer nation. They continaully find themselves being outclasses on the national level by Germany, Netherlands, Spain and so on and so on.

England couldn't even win a group with USA, Algeria and Slovenia...and got embarassed in the Round of 16 after squeaking in. If I were from the UK, I'd probably bury my head in the dirt, as they have once against embarassed on the national scene with their #1 sport.

Agree totally. People who don't pay attention to soccer during the year when the leagues are in session don't understand that there are guys on the BENCHES of some of the best countries in the tournament who are among the best players in their respective league.

Injuries definitely crippled Rooney, but I think he was healthy enough to play here - I think he was worn down a bit + unrealistic expectations for the team.

Rooney has been a constant performer since the age of 16. Since being unleashed upfront on his own since the departure of Ronaldo (the best player in the league at the time) he has scored the goals he was destined to score and carried Man Utd on his back all season in terms of goals.

He was the highest scorer in WC qualifying from all the teams in Europe. This piled on more pressure for him to score and perform than any other player in the tournament.

People are forgetting that Ronaldo has scored one goal for a Portugal team who have performed well, Messi has scored no goals for an Argentina team who have been scoring for fun, Torres is yet to score even though he is supported by the best midfield in the world (Which David Villa is taking full advantage of), yet Rooney is the only one labelled as overrated after 4 games for underperforming in an Englend team where not one player has performed to an acceptable standard.

Some people don't seem to know what they talking about.
