Totally agree that the sport needs instant replay. Coaches should be allowed to challenge three plays per game. Same as in NFL. Then, if a diver gets caught, he gets the red card, instead of the other way around. Quick and easy way to clean up the game. As long as cheating is rewarded, players will keep finding ways to cheat.

The problem is probably money. Soccer leagues are not like the NFL, where each play is recorded from various angles. Many games are not on film, or may have a single camera, so instant replay couldn't be uniformly applied.

problem isnt money, heck there isnt any, its just that football wants to stay as humanly possibly regarding referees and play calling. Sometimes it sucks cause referees can be very very dumb and they can ruin it for your team but thats just the way it is and they have been repeating it over and over again, they will not change this. Last thing they want to do is become another americanized sport which I agree completely.

Btw, there are 57 cameras on each worldcup game.. im pretty sure they can see from pretty much any angle they need hehe :P and a gigantic screen on each stadium for referees to feel dumber

There should be a video review committe that goes through the game afterwards. They should then be able to penalize players who's faking injuries and what not. That way the real time game isn't stopped, but players should think twice before rolling around on the ground cause it could mean that you'll miss the next important match.

In fact, there is a committee that reviews all those types of plays.. They have already penalized a goalkeeper in a Champions League Game (Dida from AC Milan) for faking those kinds of things. Also Brazil will probablly appeal that red card and most surely theyll remove that card.

I watch because I have large wagers on most games and all action on any sport makes me happy. I would get pumped about darts or pool if I had action on it.

I love the other guys in thread who say I am 'trying to understand it'. I think I understand it well enough - many games decided by calls of the referee, so play the ref and not the game.

Don't say the refs are not huge in this sport.
