I read today those things go to 127 decibels. Nasty.
Anyway they aren't a huge part of African football culture. They were invented in the '90s in South Africa and aren't used outside that country at all. Hardly a pan-African symbol of football.

Wow I am suprised how many people are annoyed by the horns, considering most [I am speculating here] haven't actually been near one in their lifetime and only watch these games on the tv where they only tickle your ear drums. I say if it's part of their culture they should be allowed to toot those "stupid horns."

Vuvuzelas African culture? I don't think so. Drums are. How cool would that have been? These things are made of plastic. They're relatively new. And super annoying.

Here is the fact about vuvuzelas - they can reach up to 144 decibels when tested in stadiums. They have not been examined in closed roof stadiums like those South Africa now has. Exposure to these noises can lead to permanent hearing damage, and effects such as feeling like being in an ascending airplane with the pressure differences.

And how will refs whistles be heard??

If FIFA is not a complete pack of c*nts they will ban these after a week

*Culture has nothing to do with this either, they are plastic and can be picked up at Tesco and Spar for £1.99 or 2 for £3. Culture....Boll*cks, they only came into South African football in the 90's

Ill have to do my research and see if they are.

"And how will refs whistles be heard??"

Well if its that bad-- BAN THEM!

Vuvuzelas are just the last revenge for white oppression. As if rap, as payback for slavery, wasn't enough.

Do you think it coincidence that the word 'slave' is hidden in vuvuzelas? I think not!

It leaves 'vuzu'. Obvious code for voodoo. I'm telling ya. F*cking sorcery.

If they can give a home advantage then good luck to them, from a home team perspective you would be thinking our boys are motivated by this while everybody else hates it fuk the rest we'll make them even louder.

Lots of teams have a unique supporter style, it gives them an edge, can intimidate the away team and motivate the home team, its a unique part of football culture.

The sound of a swarm of bees sounds annoying to most of us and is probably meant to.

Make sure you all get your vuvuzelas
