Realistically, how far does the U.S go?

Some people seem to think that Slovenia just popped out of the earth like a mushroom, but this is part of the old Yugoslavia. A deep soccer culture. Slovenia eliminated a very strong Russia, coached by Hiddink.

If it's between the US and Slovenia for second place in the group, Slovenia gets the nod. But that's a big if, because England is no lock for top spot.

With Capello at the helm of England's bench, I won't bet on that. England will not concede as many goals/game at the WC as they're doing in friendlies. I'm not sure the US team will get any goal against England.

I expect USA to get the 16s round.

I like Capello as manager, he did a good work twice in Real Madrid.( It's sad he get fired after winning a title (two leagues!), but they found their game awful. And now, they get uncle Mou, so... ). But the problem of England are their players and the way they head the decissive games. They'll fail again at quarters.

Hope Spain winning...

Good post. Slovenia beat out the Czech Republic as well! The same Czech Republic that, without going to the WC, just beat the US, in the US, by a convincing 4-2 score. Just a friendly, but not what you want to see from a team heading for S. Africa.

Slovenia is very underrated. Their odds are getting astronomical (+65000 to win the WC, which can set up some sweet middles if they get through the first round). This is probably related to the fact that bettors are putting large numbers on England and the US. My pick for best value is Slovenia.

I don't think the US will advance out of their group. Our last World Cup was brutal, and other than Landon and Clint there's no guys ready to step up and take the lead. Also, our defense is really bad and if you can't play defense in the World Cup you're finished.

Got Uruguay aswell was 150/1, last time it checked you could lay it at around 40, you got Uruguay and S.Korea so your in for a big payday when one of them get to the quarters

Realistically quarterfinal. But it's far from impossible to go to semi-final. It's a wildcard team. And you have lots of reasons to celebrate a 4th place in a soccer world cup...

We made it out of the group stage, now a bit of luck and some good play and why not? We got a resilient team and Altidore is coming into his own with Donovan and Dempsey as well as a world class keeper in Howard.

I don't hate them and even had a bet on em against Algeria but they didn't do anything spectacular yet. It was a pure luck they top of the group. England was poor at the begining and Usa had this fluke by Robert Green allowed. If they lose to England they might have not qualified. There is no if's now cuz they drew that game but as i said it was a luck. They still got a chance to go further in a clash with Ghana
