    3. Gerrard (without a doubt)
    4. Kaka
    5. Essien (best defensive Mid in the world)
    6. Rooney
    7. Xavi
    8. Casillas

If we're talking about the present, i wouldn't include gerrard in that top. Gerrard has been playing poorly in the last 2 seasons....Same is available for Kaka. Put Torres on, though

You can't be serious with this thread?

Messi is not determined? No Passion? Are you serious? Rooney has 1 good season and you call him the best player in the world? WTF is going on here. That's like saying Kevin Durant is the best player in the world. Just b/c he's having a better year than Kobe, doesn't give you the right to put him in even the same sentence as Kobe.

We're currently witnessing history. Ronaldo and Messi will go down as 2 of the 10 best footballers in the history of the game. Both are still in their early 20s, and both have been competing for World Player of the Year every year since they were like 19 20 years of age, and will both be frontrunner's in the category for the next 7-8 years.
You seem to have twisted my words and misinterpreted my comments.

I said "Ronaldo and Messi do not have the same determination, work rate and passion that Rooney and Tevez have". That's completely different from saying that Messi has no determination and no passion, completely different. Please don't put words into my mouth that I never said (or typed).

Anyway, I stand by my comments and believe in them 100%.

And I have to admit I found it quite funny when you said "Rooney has 1 good season" - Rooney has been a top, top player for many years, this season he's managed to add a lot more goals to his game, he's improving but he's still been world class for multiple seasons. There's a lot more to Rooney's game than just goals, he contributes massively in many areas, his movement, pace, strength, teamwork, work rate, determination, ability to shoot from all angles and distances, he can dribble, pass, create space, assist his teammates to score, drop deep to receive the ball, hold the ball up and so on. Rooney can do almost everything, he's very close to being a complete player.

One thing that Rooney does better than most people is work hard to get himself into dangerous attacking positions. His movement and runs off the ball are absolutely incredible, he is a lot more intelligent than people give him credit for. This is something that Manchester United players have always done extremely well under Sir Alex Ferguson. Gary Neville is another one that works hard to get into positions to cause the opposition problems, even if they don't receive the ball they've worked incredibly hard to fill spaces that stretch the field and create space for others, their movement is one of the key reasons why Manchester United is so good in attack. Giggs has become a lot more intelligent with his movement in recent years, its helped to prolong his career and when Ronaldo was at United, his movement was incredible as well. It also helps that players like Paul Scholes that can play the passes to pick out the players who have got themselves into dangerous attacking spaces.

Movement off the ball and working hard to create space for your teammates is one of the major weaknesses of Liverpool at the moment, but that's another discussion. The point I was trying to make is that Wayne Rooney is the best player in the world when it comes to off the ball movement, along with Tevez and the Manchester United version of Ronaldo, before he left.

Anyway, I don't think I need to justify Wayne Rooney as a long time world class player any longer, I know it, his manager knows it and many fans know it too.

          Sportslover,

You're right, I didn't mean Rooney has had 1 good season. I mean he's had 1 great season. Notice how Rooney is in my top 6 players in the world- I don't hand out that honor to someone who just has 1 good/great season. I know he's been a consistent player for the last 4 or so years, which is why he's in my list. The best player in the world off the ball is a completely different story than best player in the world.

The best off the ball player in the world (NBA) is arguably Ray Allen, Maybe Rip Hamilton. These guys are no where near in the discussion for best player in the world.

I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree here.

Tevez is a good team player and good when high on confidence. He is probably top 10 or 15 material for me, but he doesn't cut it for the highest bracket for me. First of all we've completely or almost completely ignored all keepers and defenders in this thread. And even if we didn't, there are probably 5 strikers that I rate higher.

To be fair to Carlos he is a good rapper

                      Bias? Not at all.

He was just given by goal.com the best player in the world award for this past week.

He is also the reason why FC Twente is in first place, he isn't even a striker and he is in second place (behind the Uruguayan Luis Suarez) for best scorers in the league.

I've heard that there's about 6 teams interested in signing him up (Sevilla, Everton, Villareal are the most serious teams interested).
