On current form, this guy is the best player in the world right now. He's been winning games single-handedly for his team like no other player is doing right now!

#10Sublime player, but to be called 'the best' right now is a bit much. Hat-trick against a 10-man Wigan isn't a monumental accomplishment. Granted, he was by far the best player on the pitch....he and Johnson were the only threats out there in an otherwise average City team.Comment -

1) He's not playing in the CL
2) He's not playing for the defending champions of any league
3) He doesn't enjoy as much attention from the press as he deserves
4) His sale to Man City from Man Utd probably made people think he's not good enough for a "top" team.Comment -

#13In my (biased) opinion rooney has been winning game single-handedly all season for man u, no way would they be were they are in the table if he had been injured for a period of time - if i had the choice between rooney or tevez i would take rooney. And i think everyone's forgetting how good torres is because he HAS been injured most of the season. I'm not saying tevez isn't great though - he is, and I am SO glad fergie let him go lolComment -

#16First off, Tevez is a cracking player no doubt about it...world-class...incredible work rate and style of play...even have his kit (ofcourse, the one in Red) and watched him numerous times in person, even a few times at the Eastlands when I get free tickets thrown my way. Was absolutely gutted when he left United (his agent was a douche) and thought he was always one of our top players so eventhough many United supporters berate him and sing 'Who's that twat from Argentina?', I've still followed him and secretly rooted for him as he always gave his 110% just like the blinder of a game he had today. But, for me the best player is one who can consistently turn the game on its head but more importantly raise the game of his teammates not just for himself, which has to be Messi at the moment.
And United are not a one-man team! Rooney does not bring the ball up the pitch, down the wings, and cross it to himself. The same argument was made when we had Ronaldo..but he left and we're still doing ok. It's because we have a team where everyone contributes in their own way.Comment -

Messi has more chances to show his value than Tevez, but I still think he's betterSoccer record (2010) : 244-160-24

#22He's already as famous as you can be. No he's no Beckham but seriously Man City won't even reach CL. Did you see how poor they were today? They got lucky when the Wigan player got sent off. I would be disturbed by this performance if I would have been a City fan.Comment -

#24For me, Rooney and Tevez are the two best players in the world.
Ronaldo and Messi do not have the same determination, work rate and passion that Rooney and Tevez have.
Ronaldo is technically a little better than all the rest and physically he is a super player as well, however, he doesn't play at his best often enough in the Spanish league anymore. I think its because he is lazy and laziness is tolerated more in Spain than it is in England. In England, Sir Alex Ferguson kept Ronaldo focussed, determined and demanded that he worked a lot harder than what he does in Spain right now. That's why Ronaldo was the world's best player at Man Utd and that's why he's not as good now that he's gone to Real Madrid. Real Madrid might have been a dream move for Ronaldo but in terms of his career, it means his standard of play will drop. Just my thoughts on the matter.
Messi is also technically brilliant as a dribbler but I really think he is very selfish at times, loses the ball too often, his passing is average and can be very inconsistant. If you watch Messi on the highlights, he does some amazing things, some of his play is out of this world, however, in amongst the brilliant stuff, there is a lot of average/poor play as well. People see the great bits of Messi and think he is the best but if you watch Messi for the whole game he can be a very frustrating and selfish player to watch. Personally, I don't like Messi, I like watching him when he does something brilliant but other times, I am horrified at how overrated he is. He is also lacking a lot in terms of physicality, Rooney, Tevez and Ronaldo all have a lot more strength than Messi. Skill and strength is a fantastic combination, unfortunately for Messi, he has the skill without the strength.
So yeah, Wilforth, I would agree that Tevez is one of the two best players in the world, along with Rooney. If Ronaldo regains his Man Utd form, I would add him back alongside Rooney and Tevez.Comment -

To be honest, I've actually been disappointed in Drogba and Torres this season, Torres has had his injury problems so I'll be easier on him but Drogba hasn't hit the same heights as previous seasons. Torres also has the disadvantage of playing for an average Liverpool side but you could make the same argument about Tevez playing at City. But yeah, when these players (Torres and Drogba) were at their best, they could rival the best players in the world.Comment -

#33"Ronaldo and Messi do not have the same determination, work rate and passion that Rooney and Tevez have." - Sportsboy
You can't be serious with this thread?
Messi is not determined? No Passion? Are you serious? Rooney has 1 good season and you call him the best player in the world? WTF is going on here. That's like saying Kevin Durant is the best player in the world. Just b/c he's having a better year than Kobe, doesn't give you the right to put him in even the same sentence as Kobe.
We're currently witnessing history. Ronaldo and Messi will go down as 2 of the 10 best footballers in the history of the game. Both are still in their early 20s, and both have been competing for World Player of the Year every year since they were like 19 20 years of age, and will both be frontrunner's in the category for the next 7-8 years.Cause Sleep is the Cousin of DeathComment -
