    EP36's Equalizers
Re-upped some new money, so I am trying my hand at soccer. Been playing games here & there, so wanted to track myself. I will start by saying I am nothing near an expert or prodigy like some of the guys I have seen on here, so I would not advise tailing me unless you really like a pick. I am mostly a number cruncher + some basic knowledge of the sport. So let's see what I know or don't know. My goal is 55% winners. No more than 3 plays per day. Feel free to critique me, because I hope to learn & earn! All plays are one unit unless otherwise noted.

Play #1: [Brazil Serie A] Coritiba PR vs. Gremio RS OVER 2.5 (-115)
Gremio has played six straight matches with 3 or more goals being scored, including league play & Copa Libertadores play. They've scored 17 goals themselves in that span, while letting 11 in. Coritiba is giving up nearly 2 goals per game, while averaging one. At home Coritiba has scored 10 goals in 4 games, which may help dramatically seeing as Gremio has struggled to score on the road. 4 goals in 5 games. They have scored 9 in their last three matches, but all were on home turf.

    Play #1 Result: [W] 1-0 (+1.00)

    Play #2: [MLS] L.A. Galaxy PK (+100)
The return of David Beckham will get all the attention here, but what should be getting more is that the Galaxy have performed quite admirably without him. LA is into this one with three straight 1-0 wins. They've also beaten a pair of solid home clubs (Toronto, Chivas) on the road this season. The Red Bull continue to struggle as they have now failed to win in 10 straight matches. The Galaxy won the lone meeting this season, 1-0 on a Donovan PK goal in Los Angeles. LA is 2-1-5 on the road this season & NY is 2-3-3 at home. They haven't won at home since April 18th when they beat Real Salt Lake, one of the league's worst road teams. LA should be eager to start turning some of these road draws into wins, so I'm looking for them to continue their recent solid play & at worst, not lose.

Play #3: [UEFA Europa League] FC Zestafoni vs. Helsingborgs IK OVER 2.5 (-122)
Both clubs have been in a goal scoring groove. Zestafoni in two Europa League qualifiers has put up 11 goals, while letting just 1 in. Dating back into their regular season at home, 7 straight contests have featured more than 3 goals being scored. Zestafoni has scored more than 3 goals in 5 of those last 7 home matches. Helsingborgs scored 4 goals in their two Europa League qualifiers to date, while yielding 2. They've scored five away goals in their last 3 road matches & gave up at least one goal in their last 5 straight away from home. Zestafoni is unlikely to score with the prowess that they did against their Irish opponents in earlier qualifying, but their Swedish counterparts here showed they can score in their qualifying matches. If Zestafoni can get an early goal to keep that air about them offensively, this one has a shot I think.

I like the Galaxy pick, also took the Under 3, big chalk but there is no way 4 goals are getting scored in this one! I hope

We'll see how it goes. Looks like the Europa League one is going to be a loser. Scoreless late in the 1st half although sometimes goals come out of nowhere and in bunches.

Play #4: [Ireland Eircom] Shamrock Rovers -160
Shamrock has already beaten Sligo twice during the current season, including a 3-0 drubbing at Sligo. Shamrock is unbeaten in 9 matches and has won 5 of those overall, including 4 straight. In their last 3 road games in Premier play, Sligo has been beaten by the top club Bohemians & the worst club, Bray. They also drew against Cork City. Shamrock is 3-0-1 in their last 4 Premier home matches, with a win over top of the table, Bohemians 2-1 back in May.

Play #5: [CONCACAF Gold Cup] Canada vs. Honduras OVER 2/2.5 (-111)
Even though the teams are different from their World Cup qualifying matches back in 2008, the results could yield a look at today's final result. Honduras won both affairs, 2-1 & 3-1. Honduras has played a bit uneven to this point and has shown some difficulty scoring as they were shut out by the US in qualifying, won a match 1-0 and then exploded for 4 goals against Grenada. Canada was similar unimpressive from an offensive standpoint with their possession-style play, but they did manage to score 4 goals in 3 matches - scoring at least once in each match. Honduras despite not having their top strikers with them for the Gold Cup are still quick & dangerous. Honduras' defense is inexperienced & hopefully that is where Canada - althought not prone to pushing the issue - can make Honduras pay for at least a goal. I think both teams will score in this one, so at worst - half the stakes would get returned here with a total of 2. Hoping one of the sides can sneak in that 3rd goal to make it an all-around winner.

                            Play #6: [Brazil Serie A] Gremio Barueri -1 (-120)
Gremio Barueri play host to the bottom of the table squad, Nautico. Nautico is fresh of a 1-1 draw at home with Vitoria, one of the top 4 clubs in the league. The big difference here is that they now go on the road where their form has been abysmal. Nautico is 1-4-1 on the road in Serie A play this season. They managed a draw & a win in their 1st two home games, but have lost 4 straight since then on the road, managing just one goal in the process. Gremio meanwhile at home has been solid, winning their last 3 by 2 goals each. That includes win over the 2nd place team, Atletico Mineiro. They are 3-0-2 at home this season. Gremio's defense may not be the best in the league, but their offense is the 2nd best scoring-wise in Serie A. Going at home against a team in Nautico that struggles to find consistent offense, they should be able to continue their solid play at home and pick up a win.

Play #7: [Finland Veikkausliiga] FF Jaro vs. Tampere United UNDER 2.5 (-120)
These two teams have played twice this season with 2-0 scorelines on both occassions. The most recent came in Cup play on July 9th with Tampere winning at home. During League play this season, Jaro's home tilts are averaging right at 2.5 goals. Jaro averaging over 1.8 goals per match, while conceding just under .7.
Jaro's home goals average is a bit misleading when you factor in that they have scored 11 goals in 6 matches, with 7 of those goals coming in two games. This should play well as Tampere has trouble scoring on the road, averaging just .5 a goal per match away from home. In 6 road matches this season, Tampere has scored one goal in each of three games, while being blanked in the other three. Their defense is strong though as they have three straight matches keeping a clean sheet. In their last 5 road matches, they've conceded just 2 goals in all.

The Bundesliga champs at home seem like a decent shot here. Wolfsburg brings back the same club that beat Werder 5-1 in May to bring home the Bundesliga crow. Werder has some roster changes, so they will still be testing themselves and trying to find the right mix perhaps. Wolfsburg won their last 7 straight at home to end the Bundesliga season in 2009. They drew in a friendly match recently. Going with the home club here & hoping they care to make a statement in advance of the upcoming season.

Play #9: [UEFA Champions League] FC Sheriff Tiraspol -110
From all accounts, Sheriff was a little unlucky to come away with just a 1-0 win at Inter Turku in the 1st leg of their Champions League qualifier last week. Now, they head back home where they haven't lost in their last 15 matches. Only three draws included in that span and they've won five straight on their home pitch. The Moldavian club is also on an impressive 24 match streak without a loss overall. Inter Turku has lost 3 straight road matches (all in Veikkausliiga play) and they've been shut out in 2 of those. Sheriff knows a draw will see them through to the next round, but should also be playing to win as an away goal from Turku could even up the aggregate goal count.

Another penalty kick goal for the win for Sheriff. I believe that's exactly the way the 1st leg went.
