OK, I have been playing with http://www.sbrforum.com//Betting+Too...alculator.aspx for a while now. Today I placed my first small arb across "SportsbookA" and Matchbook on MLB. I changed the name for privacy
Matchbook says that on MLB they charge a 0.6% commission on the lesser value of tobet / towin.
I found
SBA Toronto Blue Jays +1.5 -135
Matchbook New York Yankees -1.5 +136
So I put into the calculator, $50 for Bet#1, -135 for Line#1, and +136 0.6% for Line#2, since you can put commissions into the calculator. It says to bet $37.01 on Bet#2.
So now we have
SBA Toronto Blue Jays +1.5 -135 bet $50 to win $37.04
Matchbook New York Yankees -1.5 +136 bet $37.01 to win $50.33
but Matchbook will charge 0.6% on the lesser amount, the $37.01, =$0.22
So if Blue Jays cover, I win 37.04-37.01=.03,
and if NYY cover, I win 50.33-.22-50-.22=.11
But using the bogus figures from the calculator, if NYY cover, I win 50.33-50-.3=.03. So the calculator is figuring the 0.6% commission on $50.33, not the $37.01. It figures a commission of $.30 when it should be figuring in a commission of $.22.
Could you put a checkbox on the calculator for "Matchbook rules"? (I'm sure other betting exchanges have different rules so you wouldn't want to make this the global default).
EDIT: I didn't know Matchbook charged a commission if you lost a bet. I thought it was only on a winning bet. I feel so stupid for not reading more carefully.
