    Netflix movies for streaming

Gonna be home sick for a week or so. Those of you who have Netflix, let's have some recommendations from the portion that are available for streaming on your computer or TV. No DVD's. Points awarded for any recommendation I watch and don't feel like I totally wasted my life.

    Some of my favorite movies:
Tier 1: American Psycho, The Fountain, Trainspotting, Requiem for a Dream.

Tier 2: Heat, Christopher Nolan's stuff, Night Shayamamamamlan's stuff. Indie films

    I love great dialogue.

I can't access the streaming list but what follows are some movies that I enjoy. Our tastes seem to mesh somewhat so you may enjoy them.

    In order of suggestion:
    1)Layer Cake
    2)Croupier
    3)Pan's Labyrinth
    4)I'll Sleep When I'm Dead
    5)Ronin
    6)Watchman/Sin city

Sci-Fi: Not everyone's cup of tea but I particularly enjoy the genre so you might as well:

A Scanner Darkly, Minority Report, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Bladerunner (all the movies based on Philip K. Dick source material have great narratives)
    Children of Men
    Dark City
    12 Monkeys
    The Thirteenth Floor

i like where market is going but I'd add Moon on there as well as A Boy and His Dog for sci fi

then for just plain old movies to watch instantly I'd suggest Fargo.

I've seen a few of those and liked them. You did list one bomb with "Children of Men" - MY GOD that sucked ass. lol. I suppose I could've missed something.

I'll keep this thread alive for at least two weeks and give more points out as I watch movies.

Really unknown movie and seemingly low budget, but I really liked it nonetheless.....A Cajun Story.

Other good ones are Garden State and Friday Night Lights (tv).

Some movies I liked that it sounds like you would enjoy:

Boondock Saints (the original), Full Metal Jacket, Rounders, The Prestige, Papillon, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Cool Hand Luke

Oh, and City of God (you'd love this one judging on the types of movies you like)

    Boondock Saints is A-W-F-U-L

If you haven't watched the show, watch as many eps of Dexter that you can.

If you like hoops watch Gunnin' for that #1 Spot and More than a Game

    Cocaine Cowboys

All very strong movies, right up my alley, for sure. I find the movie selection very weak unless you want to watch some Kurosawa flicks, there are some.

I did watch "The Machinist" again, recently. It's really good on your first watch and less good each time you watch it (one of those, crap I remember how this goes movies). That'd be one of the few that fit your criteria.
Also, not sure if it IS on the instant for netflix, but the recommendation of 'City of God' is a great one.
One you can snag on DVD that was set in Rio (and translated for me off a bootleg from someone from Rio) is called 'Elite Squad'. Bad name, incredible movie - very much up your alley and is subtitled on the DVD. It definitly caught me off guard as a strong 'thinking' action movie.

I don't use the movies much at all, I've been watching the TV series.
Spartacus is quite good, especially if you dont' watch the prequel first.
Although there's only 2 seasons, Dexter is amazing.

    Others:
Comedy: Arrested Development (incredible top 3 show ever made IMO), Better of Ted (AD light, more a throwaway comedy) and Larry Sanders Show (very Curb Your Enthusiasmish before Curbs).
Also, Firefly and the movie Serenity are amazingly good. Firefly is one of my all time fav series, even though it last but a season, it's very witty with some great characters. I saw the movie Serenity first and really enjoyed it. Both the show and the flick are great for different reasons.

Most of the shows listed saved my life whilst battling pneumonia. They kept my spirits up.

Yeah, I had high hopes for Boondock Saints. I still don't 'get it'. Even looking at it relative to era, it was already kind of crap.
Cocaine Cowboys and it's sequel are great documentaries. F'n awesome interviews and information.
Also, I said it last post, but I totally agree Dexter is REALLY good. I'm catching up on the series past season 2 elsewhere. I wish Netflix had them all. It just sucks you in and you want to chase it down the rabbit hole.

watched the girl with the dragon tattoo. pretty good. a shame the girl couldn't have been hotter. netflix stream has good foreign films. the horseman(australian) is brutal. carlos is long as hell, but interesting and i somehow watched one called rampage that is slow at times, but insane.

those two are documentaries, but quite interesting

The Girl with a Dragon Tatoo
The Girl Who Played with Fire
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest,
Trilogy, so you need to watch them in right order.

Nobody likes everything. I was skeptical about Children of Men at first but picked it up cheap and was pleasantly surprised.

I don't know if you looked at any of the special features on it but here is one of them:

I have watched all of the seasons of weeds and absolutely love the show.

Children of Men got very good ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB, trying for the life of me to remember if I've seen it. Watched Fargo last night at someones recommendation, pretty good minus the fake Canadian accents.

I think they are faked Minnesota accents but they are pretty close to the border so there is bleeding on both sides of the 49th.

Fargo is great the first time you see it but I found it challenging when I watched it a second time.
