If I remember right, gold standard means each dollar can be exchanged for gold.

How is the government supposed to print massive inflationary mountains of currency, if the amount of money they print is limited to the amount of gold on hand?

The same with investment bankers. How do they create trillions of dollars of derivatives out of thin air if each dollar can be legally exchanged for gold?

If I made the laws, I would want something like a gold standard in effect.

Then banks and governments would come knocking on my door offering me millions to kill the gold standard. At that level everything turns into a "what would you do for a million dollars" game show.

Its pointless to support or discuss topics like a gold standard, without recognizing who the players are and what specific motives people have for adopting their stances.

Anyways, if you support a gold standard your best weapon is information. Getting the word out on how policies like gold standards benefit those who aren't 1 percenter investment bankers. The pro gold demographic appears to overwhelmingly be composed of middle aged boomers. There aren't many millennials or younger generation being taken by gold fever. If you want your gold standard values to survive there's some work to be done.

What would be cool is if an electronic payment merchant offered seamless gold integration.

Instead of the balance on your credit card being denoted in dollars, it would be based on the price of gold and move upwards or downwards accordingly.

In addition, they could have a service whereby gold could be shipped to and from end users at an acceptable fee.

That's the direction they should take with gold imo. It would allow those in hyperinflating venezuela and zimbabwe to have electronic payment options in precious metals and allow gold to be rebooted into the current point and click era.

Governments have the false idea their job is to prop up failing fiat currency via protectionism and oppressing alternate standards of money.

In reality, they should support competition between currencies to give consumers the best options, which translates to a stronger economy and job market.

If government issued fiat can't compete then it is broken and perhaps deserves to fail in order to incentivize state regulators doing a better job and stop devaluing everything.

If it were up to me gold, crypto, fiat and all other forms of currency would be legalized. Consumers and markets would decide which money was the best money. Not some biased and partisan federal reserve or other corrupt banker cartel agency that had its own questionable agendas to push.
