#5ppl will be lining up for this job, the tennessee brass saw that fulmer could no longer compete with the urban meyers and nick sabans of the sec, so they canned him, it will end up being the right move, but might take time to materialize
candidates will be lining up to take this job, they will get a GREAT coach in knoxvilleComment -

#7Tuberville is next.
Short List I'm sure will include S Spurrier but who else ?
With Tenn competing in recruiting against Saban Spurrier Miles they will need a big name. Will they pay the mega bucks like Bama did ?Comment -

#11I still have no idea who the big name will be. They have to get a young coach that can bring excitement back to knoxville but I'm not sure who. A bunch of TN fans are actually calling for Stoops, but I don't think this will ever happen.Comment -

#16We Bama fans still blame Fulmer for being that "secret" witness in the NCAA thing. He is now out of a job, we are rehabilitated, have Saban and are ranked #1 in the country. I think that worked out well for us.Comment -

#20he did most of damage in the mid to late 90's when the sec was not as strong, other than the spurrier, there were no other real marquee coaches there so he got 'fat', no pun intended, off of a worse secOriginally posted by Doc JSNot a Phil Fulmer guy by any means but...

competition every week. And I do believe that is the same Ole Miss team that beat Florida. Now I didn't say that Bama would run the table this year. Florida has been playing like a team possessed since they got beat. But we Bama fans would like to play them in Atlanta so that we can see how far along our team has come. We expected to be in the position...just not this year.Comment -

#23Okay, this is a great job. SEC...great conference, great dedicated fans, and the job carries a hefty paycheck. Stoops is an interesting thought, but whoever lands in Knoxville it has to be someone who isn't going to let the season get away from them like Fulmer did. When ex-players are more enthused about a game than the coach, you have problems.Comment -

#24Short list (in my opinion only) to replace Fulmer:
1. Will Muschamp
2. David Cutcliff
3. Lane Kiffin
4. Jon GrudenComment -

#27With Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina in that division, Tennessee is going to get a heavy dose of humility the next couple of years. Bottom line is that you can't win that SEC East division every year and this is true even more nowadays. To fire a coach that just won it the previous season is ridiculous (put it however you like, but he was the head coach of the team that went to the SEC Championship game last season). Really, it's not that Tennessee will not win ball games and have success, it's that the SEC East is the toughest division in the toughest conference in the country and they are just going to be one of the big boys in that division who beat up on each other. Put any team in the country in that division and they will struggle to see half the success that they had outside of it. Any team could have a bad season (or bad seasons for that matter) in the SEC East. Who is Tennessee going to get that will be better than Phil Fulmer? I do not see anyone available that is a home run hire for them right now. Not only is Tennessee going to downgrade at the head coaching position, but they will also have to suffer the short term recruiting losses due to the coaching change. Very poor and irrational decision based more on emotion than logic. Tennessee could end up a lot like Nebraska after Frank Solich or Arkansas after Houston Nutt. Both were poor decisions made by arrogant athletic departments and fan bases. This Tennessee decision is no different.Originally posted by The SeerHe didn't take them to it. From Spurrier: "But congratulate him on hitting that lottery ticket. That's a big ticket he got...I don't know whether to feel sorry for coach or congratulate him for the biggest buyout in the history of college football. He got the best deal ever, I think."Comment -
