    Getting Into Sportsbetting
I'm just starting to learn about Sports betting right now. I want to learn as much as i can before i start betting some real money.

Right now I'm just playing on a free site that uses real vegas odds (cent sports). So far I've turned $ .10 into $2.80 from around 30 different bets.
Which makes me want to gamble some real money, but I don't want to start betting money without a decent bankroll. I'm hoping some of you guys can help answer some newbie questions for me.

    1) Can a bettor be successful only betting on a small number of games? Or do most profitable sports gamblers bet on many games to milk a statistical edge.

    2) I've been usually betting the same amount each time. Is it better to change your betting amount based on your confidence?

    3) Is online sports betting in the US safe/smart? Or do most of you guys go through bookies.

    4) How many games will it take to tell if I'm making good picks or if I'm plain lucky.

bet tons of games, if you are hitting 60% you probably need to bet about 5 times as many plays as you are.

    Vary amounts

I only used offshore it is fine in the US

Hard to say, but do not just look at record, also factor in how easily your bets won or how bad they lost. If you start out 12-8 but most of your wins are close and most of your losses lose to the spread by double digits you likely will not continue to win.

A lot of people are telling me that having a high number of bets is important.

But wouldn't I have a better edge if I made fewer but higher quality bets. I'm pretty sure the quality of my picks would go down the more picks I made. Even though I've basically been playing with no real risk, I've been trying to only bet on games that I feel pretty confident in.

BTW what are your opinions on these picks

      76ers Kings 199 u(-110)
      Cleveland Cavaliers +2.5 (-110)
      Golden State Warriors -1.5 (-110)

I don't pay attention to the amount of plays I make. If I like the play, I like the play, regardless of whether it's my tenth play of the day or the only play that day.

It 'would', but you'd be passing on +EV opportunities by limiting yourself to fewer plays. If you have an edge, bet it. See posts on Kelly Criterion for more details, the Think Tank subforum is a good place to start.
