Thing about SMU is that their offense is all or nothing. It either scores a lot of points and they win or it does terrible and they get blown out. No in between.

SMU keys to covering against A&M is to limit turnovers, limit 3 and outs, and score touchdowns instead of field goals.

Turnovers and field goals killed them against Baylor, because they moved the ball well against them

This is because all the checks at the line SMU QB does

SMU does not have set plays but instead QB reads the defense at the line before the snap and signals to the receivers, backs and offensive line what their assignments are, each player has a different assignment based on what the QB signals. And after the snap the receivers route is dependent on defensive coverage, so the QB and receivers both have to recognize it

That is why when they are off its ugly, because when they are off it can be attributed to the players not being on the same page. All 11 players have to be on the same page for the offense to work.

Gilbert hasn't had much time with the team. I think that's why they have looked so terrible. I expected SMU to be a little better as they weren't so lucky last yr. But they were outgained by 138 yds vs SF Austin. Should have been a much closer game.
This game will be won at the line of scrimmage. Not sure of the RLM here kinda scary but my money is on the aggies in this one.

Watching the Florida-TAMU game last week showed me a lot about both teams. I definitely understand how a redshirt freshman won the starting QB job for the Aggies now, and that I'm likely going to play them ATS every week for the next four weeks going into their bye. They're a very physical team that should be able to completely overpower the Mustangs here, who just haven't gotten themselves rolling yet.
