    Tuesday Thumbs
The purpose of this thread is to give tribute or scorn to things in the world of sports, betting or whatever. THUMBS UP or THUMBS DOWN .

:thumbs_up to Blue Jays lefty closer B.J. Ryan. I've been catching the end of a few Blue Jays games lately and am liking what this guy is doing. I have to admit, I don't totally understand his success. It looks like guys should be able to hit him but the numbers suggest otherwise. 0.47 era. 21 saves in 22 chances. 45K's (with only 8 walks) in 38 innings.

Brings back memories of Henke and Ward and some exciting baseball times in this town.

:thumbs_up to the movie Syriana which I finally saw on DVD. Very intelligent, nicely done movie.

:thumbs_do to the Swiss soccer team and their pathetic effort in the Penalty Kick shootout against Ukraine. I mean, sure, there is a certain amount of fun in watching a world class event and being able to say in complete honesty, "I could do better than those guys." But still, thumbs down.

Thumbs up for Ronaldo for just becoming the highest ever scorer in the WC competition; 1 today, 3 for the tournament and 15 in total.

Agree with you about BJ Ryan, Mud. He's having a tremendous year to give the Jays at least one positive contributor among those they spent bazillions on in the offseason.

To the Detroit Tigers who are confounding all of the experts and playing some excellent baseball right now.

To MLB for having the All-Star Game decided home field advantage for the World Series.

To David Ortiz who has got to be the most deared hitter in the late innings these days.

To Asheville Tourists manager Joe Mikulik who acted the ass over a close call last Sunday, then had the audacity to say, "I don't think I ever lost total control, though it may look like it."

I'm giving a :thumbs_up to Roger Federer who has set a record with his 42nd consecutive grass court victory. The Swiss ace, who has not lost on grass since 2002, has broken the tie he was in at 41 with Bjorn Borg.

Borg won all of his 41 matches at Wimbledon, though - a significantly better achievment.

Sort of. Wimbledon is more presitigous obviously, however , the tournament is longer and thus the 1st few rounds you're playing against far weaker opponents vs. a shorter tournament where you're playing better competetion sooner.

                  Theoretically speaking.

In any case, the next longest streak after Borg is much less - something like 23 consecutive grasscourt victories - so it's an impressive streak of dominating tennis.

Tennis is becoming quite a specialty sport these days between Nadal's claycourt streak and this.
