This might be off topic, but were people here pissed when they closed the Stardust? I live in Phoenix, so I would go all the time, toward the end I didn't go as much, but I was pissed and am glad that the Boyd's are eating that project, Echelon Place, at least for a year. That was my superbowl home tho, I loved that ****ing place. Never a better book anywhere.

Boyd Gaming's building of their new casino where the old Stardust was has been pushed back now until 2010. I live on Las Vegas Blvd. and they made the announcement the other day.
PS And YES people are still pissed. I just back from dinner with a bartender friend of mine who use to work there.

So it's pushed for 2 years now, not just the 1 as before? Or is it that completion is 2010, so a 1-year moratotium on the building?
Yea, but I say **** the Boyd's and when I go to Vegas I avoid all Boyd casinos. That was my home from 91 until it closed in 06. The gov aranged that deal to yank it from the mob, then these ****s closed it to make a fag-farm called Echelon Place..... I've never been happier at their demise. The Dust could have been making bank for them the last 2 years. That place was sold out for big dates like the SB and others.... Oh yea, tomorrow is the 2 year anniversary of the last night. Fuuuuuuuuuuuck...it just occurred to me.

#4I liked the Stardust too. I used to love the small tower with the balconies.
I used to come to the room at daybreak and watch the sun come up on the balcony. Thats back when I was still in love with vegas.
Now I consider most of the strip a wasteland.bird bird da bird's da wordComment -

#5This town is bleeding right now. Nobody on the strip. Conventions are down huge this year. Every single casino, nightclub, strip club, etc. is hurting right now. Bad. The casinos building right now like Boyd's and MGM/Mirage (City Center) may be in a world of hurt if things continue the way they have. Both have had to push back their construction midway through the projects. Not good.Comment -

#6I think Las Vegas forgot to cater to gamblers. Too much attention towards fleecing the tourists. Poor games, poor paybacks, overcharging for simple things, too much growth killed vegas.bird bird da bird's da wordComment -

Well, yea, but it will be temporary. I collect antique casino chips and during the mid 50's all these casinos blew up on the strip. The Stardust used to be the Royal Nevada Casino from 55-58 but they were hurting so they sold to what became the Stardust. Even the Dunes was rumored to have closed for a bit. I have some Royal Nevada Casinio chips. Anyway, there have been down times and rush times, it will fix.
It is a trip to see this shit, the uncertainty is as scary as it is interesting.Comment -

Well, I don't know how old you are, but I was in my early 20's in 85, my first visit to Vegas, and it was the transition from mob to corp owned and it was waaaaaaaaaaay different. I don't smoke, but there was a cigarette shoe full of cigs, you could grab a handful, they were at the blackjack tables. The odds were better, food just about free, but it was real stuffy and not that fun. They catered to gamblers tho, not like an amusement park. They made money off the gambling, not the rooms and food as it is today.Comment
