#10In the real world, I don't think I know anyone who can be bothered posting on public internet forums. We are much stranger than the people who don't join in.
I don't see it as a fear issue at all. Public internet forums are extremely stupid, childish places. The reason I don't hang around at a daycare for kids with A.D.D. is not fear. It's just kind of a crappy environment where I don't want to spend any more time than I have to.
I'm sure many people feel the same about forums.
I'm not saying that about forums to point fingers at others; I have done my share to contribute to the childishness.
But I think most people just naturally focus on real flesh-and-blood face-to-face humans in their lives rather than internet stuff. We are the exception IMO.Comment -

Actually...if a new guy is accused of being a ghost...the first question he asks would have been "What's a ghost?" if the new guy has a clean sheet. The only ones bothered are the ones that are ghosts and are busted.Comment -

#16Woudln't as a new guy, you want to be compared to as a ghost of some of those guys mentioned above? Many of those guys are pretty well respected Posters around here and have been doing it a while. If you are new guy and they think you are a ghost of one of those then maybe you are bringing something to the table just like these Vets that have been around.
So is being called a ghost all that bad???Comment -

Yikes. Are you serious? I sure wouldn't.
Never mind the fact that, if I was new, I wouldn't have any idea how respected anyone was, but no - I would find it very insulting and disrespectful to have people marginalizing me from the first time I open my mouth.

#19Originally posted by Matt RainGambling forums in general have become little cliques of paid posters, friends of paid posters, wanna-be-paid posters, non-gamblers (what the hell?) and assorted weirdos just shooting the shit and drumming up fake drama/stories to generate page views.
That's an excellent summary.
It's a shame that people who could be helping me make money are kept away because of that stuff.
But I guess it's inevitable that forums end up dominated by non-gamblers and forum people rather than betting people. Betting people devote time to betting whereas forum people just do forum stuff non-stop.
I can't let myself think about it too much.
