I'm going to say betting too much per bet. Those who continually go for big score without adequate funds are always in the soup line.

I know guys that bet over 100 plays week for $50 bucks and never get hurt and I know guys making a few plays a week for 3k and get buried.

      Both can be mistakes.

When do you bet? Whenever you have an edge. In most cases, you should be able to show with solid math why your bet has an edge.

How much should you bet? Proportional to your edge. Again, this is a straightforward math problem with a lot of wrong answers.

Serious, do you guys want to have fun or make some money? Get with the math!

I find those both to be peripheral issues.

The main cause of gamblers losing is bad bets. i.e. - choosing bets for the wrong reason.

But of the given choices, I would say "too much per bet" is a bigger potential problem. Even if you know exactly what you are doing in deciding your bets, you still have to keep yourself protected against the inevitable losing streaks. If you hit that streak at a time you are laying too much per bet, you can bust yourself.

I do about 10 wagers in Champions and UEFA combined, and yet havent had a losing day, yes ... I can get 4 straight winning bets and then lose the remaining 6 ... but if you do the proper math .... you still end up winning.

I'm with Justin on this on...amount risked porportional to edge. I work with a pretty decent bankroll and place about 15-20 bets daily for VERY small amounts generally 150. Rarely risk more than 5% overall on a day's action.

It doesn't matter. If one has no edge, then their optimal bet size is 0. So, it's all about how fast they want to go broke.

I risk about 10% of my Bankroll on UEFA CUP and CHAMPIONS.

Only reason I would do it ... rest of games (NFL / NBA / MLB) dont go higher than 3%
