Why aren't there more threads about Saratoga?
Best meet of the year, barely any handicapping discussions

Wish we had a few more horse guys on this site,

Used to go to travers every year, great times man, beautiful women, great card daily, and u can pack your own coolers. Food...

Travers is this weekend. Looks like the big guns are not running like Bode, Paynter, etc. Keeneland and Saraotoga- 2 of the best meets. Maybe we can get a discussion going for the Travers.

maybe the travers day card will be ok as usual. but the daily cards so far have been maiden laced with 4-6 maiden races every day. some prefer these but 2 yr olds with no lines are not easy to pick. lucky numbers or jockeys or dart throwing is the only way to play these. somewhat lackluster meet so far as is del mar also.

Saratoga is tough, the pools are made up of mostly sharp players. You have to be extremely patient to catch an overlay.

As for the jocks, their win % might not show it but Irad Ortiz and Wimer Garcia are capable jocks you just have to wait for them to get on a live one.Dominguez is the best there is and Lezcano has really stepped up this meet.Castlellano and Velasquez are underlays in just about every race so its when you think you can beat them that opportunity arises.

As for the trainers, George Weaver and Cristophe Clement have been killing it . Serpe is getting his usual Saratoga bump where he always does better than anywhere else. Everyone is catching on to Weavers horses now though so may have missed the boat and Clement is back to getting bet no matter what the horses form looks like.I think Mott is the one to watch with what is left of the meet, he has gotten unlucky quite a few times. When Junior Alvarado rides for him the horse is live most of the time unless its a firster. The only time Rosie is live is when she rides for Anthony Dutrow.

Lkid until 2009 i went to 13 straight travers guy....one of the most underrated sports days in the country...its like the equivalent of a 9 hour college football tailgate with gambling mixed in

used to always go to hatties chicken shack after

just cant make it these days with geography and other shit getting in the way for my crew

greatest travers day bet: there was an early race "jerry bailey invitational" maybe 7 or 8 years ago and one of the jockeys got scratched and they announced on the pa that jerry bailey would be up instead....we didnt walk, we ran to the fukkin window and hammered that guy to win....won by like 4 lengths

Went to the spa annually for 15 years before 2010. Hit my first pick 4 there. Haven't had time these days. Never been to Travers. Can't wait for the Belmont fall meet to start up, I love weekdays at the races its like back in the day cutting class.

I went to 5 in a row, used to camp out fishing, studying form by fire...

Classic day...we were on the picnic tables at the top of the turn that day...went from like 100 fukkin degrees to storm of the century. I was standing on a table under the umbrella watching those mother fukkers head for home trying not to get hammered by the rain. Totally surreal experience. Felt like fukkin midnight.

slot machines and keno are the biggest sucker games in the world. horse racing, which will be gone in 20 years due to aging clientele, with no replacements looming, is still better than getting hosed by some casino.

I make an annual trip to Saratoga but always after the Travers, which is a zoo. You'd have to pay me to go to the track that day.
