1st week of any sports season is a time to see who has their money management in check. Anyone making regular wagers is crazy because you have no clue how preseason translates to the regular season. Not advocating no bets, but if you're betting games like you would two months into the season - you're more likely to get your ass handed to you.

I think you always play it close to the vest for the first couple weeks until you see form, strategy, etc. Friendlies in soccer more than preseason maybe doesn't show you much at all.
