I think it can go either way. Usually deleted users that I've seen on other vbulletin boards don't have a name attached to their posts that are leftover (will say 'guest'), so everything is incredibly hard to search for or know who said it unless people quoted you (in which case whether the post is actually deleted or not doesn't matter).
