I can understand why people would bet for entertainment, but it makes no sense to not try to at least lose your money a little slower. Then again, obtaining a small edge is so easy that I would feel like a moron for not getting my money in good.

I guess I've always likened it to art as a hobby. How long do you continue to draw stick figures until you try to teach yourself how to draw portraits? Do you just never try? The majority of posters here just love drawing stick figures I suppose. I guess I'll just never comprehend that mentality.

The problem is that gambling can fool you. You can makes bad bets and win and you can make good bets and lose. Because of this, it's easy to fool yourself (both ways) over a small sample size. With art it's pretty easy to see that you suck but it takes a lot longer for a beginner to figure this out in sports betting.
