As you yourself said, it's not a question of allow. It's been a business plan since day 1.

Many people have tried to influence SBR into going more quality-oriented but, if it hasn't happened yet, I don't think it will.

I was a mod here from day 1 and I was one of those quality-focused people. But they wouldn't let me do anything about jj's ghosts. I would watch him talk to himself all day long sometimes. And I'd watch those certain types get sucked in. And I watched the forum turn into a daycare. I guess I still would if not for liberal use of the IGNORE function.

It is a crappy business model from my perspective. Sharp info with minimal spam is what works best for my purposes. But I have to think that SBR_John would not have gone this way if he didn't honestly believe it was good business. There must be more profit in a dumbed down model.

I try to just think of it as a necessary evil. It's the price I have to pay for access to all the good Sportsbook/Industry information here. I try not to think of the sharp players who might have useful information for me who must take one look at this place and conclude, "What a bunch of dumdums," and go somewhere else.

I just try not to think about it.

You are far from the lone ranger. But, for self-evident reasons, a lot of the people who would agree with you don't hang around here any more.



Right near when the forum started, SBR_John actually started a jjgold sub-forum. I was already familiar with the shtick and knew where it would inevitably lead and I, along with the other mod at the time, came out against the idea. My vision for a premium type forum had not yet been totally, tragically squashed (LOL) and I complained that it would really be going in the wrong direction to put such focus on empty games over substance.

That sub-forum was done away with.

Man did I ever not think that one through. Now I think it would be a great idea. Let jj+ghosts and anyone with man-crushes all go stroke each other there.


But yes. The inevitable result of this forum model is that people like us are pushed to the fringes.

And again, we probably have to accept to some degree that that is the smart business move for SBR. All the most profitable, accessible stuff - movies, music, TV - tends to be the dumbed-down element. No reason to think forums are any different. And there is no reason to expect SBR to throw away money.
