Lakers get to keep gasol and still get dwight howard

The only thing less surprising than the Lakers getting Howard is that resident Laker hater wantitall would be in here rationalizing how the trade still doesn't make the team any good.

you guys make it sound like bynum was a total waste of space. while he isnt dwight howard he was still according to most the second best big man in the league. so just how much better will howard make the lakers over bynum? It isnt like the gasol/brown deal where gasol was light years better than kwame brown. Its an upgrade more on the defensive side but lakers were already good defensively, so in essence it doesnt address some of the major problems they had, defense is good but you also need offense. Bynum was much better than Howard when he wanted to play, at least offensively. People can blame howards back all they want but he wasnt hurt his whole career.

Like I said the Lakers are obviously better, but it doesnt take much to be better, Nash made them better, not a ton better, but he improved them more at that stage than Howard for bynum helps them now.

It still comes down to what Kobe does. If by some miracle he lets nash do his thing and somehow getting howard and gasol going down low they will be much better. I just look at it from history. And the fact that if they do try that and they struggle it wont be long before kobe starts the usual bullshit again which will just solidify him as the greatest team killer ever.

So funny seeing these laker fans lose their minds. Just like every other Laker fan they have no clue about how basketball actually works. See a big name no matter how old they are and they think theyre the best, especially when they put in a laker jersey. I remember people saying Kwame Brown would improve with the Lakers LMAO, yeah. Well they did get Gasol for him so he served some purpose.

But I want all you guys to explain what happens when these guys have to rest? Look at the shit they have on their bench. They had the worst bench in the league last year and all they did was add Antwan Jamison, but they lost (or will lose) arguably their best bench guy in matt barnes. So if you ask me their bench might actually be worse than it was. By contrast look at the clippers bench this year. thats why I say if they are all healthy lakers might not even win the Pacific.

Too soon to talk about this now once it all settles in and people REALLY look at who has what and who did what then they will see, then once the season starts and Lakers dont start 20-0 people will destroy this team. If Howard isnt healthy and struggles and shows he obviously inst what he used to be it will really hit the fan.

Enjoy it now. it reminds me of Cubs fans when they actually thought they were going to be good. Hope is a great thing thats for sure. But the odds this ends badly VASTLY outweigh the positives.

Sounds like a play on words. This "But we all know Kobe, he needs his 25+ shots" certainly comes across as Kobe shoots the ball 25+ times per game on average.

All teams "get away from" the game plan at times. Lakers & Kobe are no different. With that being said......I'm with you in that the Lakers were a better team last season playing "inside-out".

i suppose you missed the fact that it was tongue in cheek but he did shoot four times more 3's last year and in the playoffs than his career avg.....and it still wasnt much but if he thinks he's a jump shooter then he'll get plenty of opportunity considering howard has no other option than to anchor himself in the post if/when he's not running pick n rolls.

and everyone knows that the eastern conference has historically been much better than the west so if your measure of greatness is reaching the finals then so be it.

double team howard or hack a howard seems like other teams might get into foul penalty and aggresive nash, kobe, gasol (all at the least good ft shooters) doesnt sound good for opponents.

If...when.... Howard leaves after this failed season and Lakers are left with a bunch of 35+ year old guys and some 28+ year old stiffs and no draft picks for the next decade then what will people think of him?

When Howard leaves lakers will be KObe Bryant 35 playing on 40 year old legs, Steve nash who will be 40 in actual years, Pau Gasol who will be 34 I think, Artest who will be 33 or 34, and whatever else they cant try and dump on someone.

Also start looking at the salaries some of these guys are getting. Theyre at 98 million or so this year. Workable since the new CBA doesnt kick in. But look going forward. Theyre stuck with 70 million, not including Artest who is supposed to make 8 and whatever howard wants, which will be close to 20 if not more than 20. So that puts them over 100 right they PLUS the way the new CBA tax kicks in, for just 8 guys. Kobe 30 mil, (Howard 20 mil), Nash 9.3 mil, (Artest 7.8 mil), Blake 4 mil, Duhon 4 mil, Jordon HIll 3.5 mil. Then whatever they have to pay the other scrubs they need to fill the bench, probably 8-10 million more there.

Maybe that is why Jim Buss did this, he took a shot and is seeing that in 2014/2015 they arent on the books for anything or anyone but Steve Nash for around 10 million. They finally get out from under Gasols deal, and Kobes deal will be done, but you can rest assured that will be an issue this year too, how to re-sign Kobe and also afford Howard. I made a few insightful comments before this one, but then again I am a frigging genius when it comes to the Lakers, so people really should heed what I say about them.

Five straight home games against GSW, Sac, Spurs, Suns, Rockets. If they dont go 4-1 they are really in deep shit, the way theyre playing though 2-3 isnt out of the realm of possibility. Then they go on the road for a 3 banger where they'll probably go 1-2, then home for 3 more where they should go could go 1-2. So that puts them at 5-11 1/5 of the way through the season. Even if they over perform and are 8-8 is that really a good record for a team like this?
