Besides Coach Patterson is not a stranger to punishment

At the Rose Bowl we had 2 guys stroll into our team hotel at 5am, and the curfew was 1am... well Coach Patterson made a deal with the hotel security to have the security team monitor the cameras and catch any of our players coming in after curfew. Well what do you know the security team saw the 2 players strolling into the hotel after 5am, told Coach Patterson, next thing these players knew was that they were being sent home to Fort Worth on a greyhound bus.

He wasn't involved with the distribution, he was roommates/best friends with the linebacker who was arrested for dealing

The players kicked off the team were the ones dealing

Plus they kicked off all the small or non contributors/walk ons who tested positive for drugs in the team wide drug test back in February

Honestly if Fort Worth police want to look all tough they should have raided the frat houses thats where the real hardcore drug activity goes down. What the TCU players were arrested for was petty and is pocket change compared to the frat houses. But all the frat houses contain rich kids from rich TCU donors so not a snowballs chance FWPD would raid/sting them. Though there were a handful busted during the raid in February in the frat houses those were just the kids who either had no parents with TCU donor ties or couldn't pay off the narcs.

Trust me I went to TCU for 5 years... the frats there are organized crime rings.
