#37Exactly why if the Repubs wanted a strong candidate who would run on his own record and connect with the everyday man, they would have voted for Huntsman in the primaries. Guy would easily be ahead in the polls right now, only guy if nominated who would have gotten my vote.Comment -

#42Can't call it, this is a good question. There are tons of cops here, but it's much different than what I experienced in Washington and Oregon. While there are way more cops, they don't seem to harrass people nearly as much as I have experienced elsewhere.
I wouldn't say that Utah is booming, is any state but South Dakota booming? Utah's economy is pretty healthy, especially if you work in the key sectors.
While Utah is a weird state in terms of its legislative practices, it's not the worst for sports gamblers. Afterall, Washington, not Utah, is a state that somehow managed to outlaw online gambling, where people are unable to sign up for gambling accounts online.Comment -

#43Also, as a homeowner and one who lives in Sandy, Utah, the amount of cops is very costly to the taxpayer. I paid taxes for police services and last year, I had to pay an additional fee for them--meaning, writing a check out to city for the service. Not everyone had to, but I did because of some strange-ass municipal territory deal. Was not cheap. Fortunately, the taxpayers were so pissed off and many refused to pay that it sounds like they are doing away with this.Comment -

#47LOL thats a Yahoo news story so who knows the validity of it.
As far as Utah, yeah I could see it but Colorado? seriously? You have had Columbine and now this nut job at the movie theater, those two events alone make Colorado a place no one in their right mind would want to go to. It now beats out Virginia with all the Va tech shit as the place youre most likely going to be gunned down by some random psycho.
But I am sure there were a ton of factors that went into it. Like economy, natural disaster possibilities, weather, etc. But basically any place 'cool' there is to live has serious drawbacks or possible drawbacks, California has fire, mudslides, earthquakes, traffic, violence, questionable air quality, and a lot of other things. The only real positive it has is the weather, which is so good it makes people forget the other shit that is wrong with this place.
But I have visited or lived in more than a few states, and would have to say that all or them have good and bad. Arizona is decent but weather is very different from winter too summer so n real good weather either too hot or too cold. Plus it has some socio economic issues. Texas is good but betwen tornadoes and hurricanes and illegals there arent a ton of options on where you could fine a 'perfect' spot. Weather is an issue but it isnt extreme everywhere but when you do find a nice weather spot is has issues. New England, most of the states are similar. Economy is rough as well as the weather, but if you have an established form of income then they would probably top my list. Taxes suck but like I said if you have money they have the least amount of negatives. Florida, jax Fla is probably the best place I ever lived, but that was 15 years ago. So not sure if it has changed a lot or not. Cheap, decent economy, good weather and even with hurricanes it is in the corner where east coast ones usually dont impact it too hard and gulf ones just give rain, so in terms of natural weather issues the location helps it. crime was pretty high there even in the better sections but that may have come down somewhat now.
I have been to Utah as well, depending on your approach to the laws they have there it could be real good or not so good for you. I would imagine older people would find it a lot more positive than young people looking for 'adventure', although there is actually a lot to do there. Just that drinking is hindered and gambling is basically non existent. So guys on these forums probably wouldnt jive with it.
But the 'best' place to live if it didnt rain every day would probably be Washington state. Good economy, decent social life, a lot of stuff to do in a lot of areas. The major problem is the sun never shines and people get so frigging depressed that they do all sorts of things which eventually effects the overall positive nature of the place. But because of the rain I would actually put Alaska above it because while Alaska is cold in the winter the sun does come out. Obviously talking southern mid interior where youre away from the ocean enough to get rid of its effects. Problem with Alaska is even down in the southern areas it is pretty expensive. But if you have money it would probably be a top 5 place to live.
nevada, meh, they wont have enough water in 20 years for people to brush their teeth so their future is just getting more and more dismal.Comment -

#49I am familiar with Anchorage and Wasilla, Alaska and the sun is not so common as you made it sound. Locals say, "hey, look, there's the sun," with the same level of enthusiam that tourists say, "hey, look, there's a moose!" It's a great state if you like the outdoors and if not, you're going to be miserable. Alaskans are real mavericks and some of the most interesting people I have interacted with.
I grew up in the Southwest Washington and rain is not the only thing that's negative--though I now miss the rain. Their economy sucks. It nosedives faster and recovers slower. The people as a whole seem more depressed and not nearly as unified as other places that I have been to. Not a huge sense of community there and I think it has more to do with the layout of the land. Everything is spread out and there's not a whole lot in the way of city planning. Downtown Vancouver has improved quite a bit. With all that being said, I still miss many aspects of Washington and wish its economy was like Utah's.
Steel, it's hard to know the U.S. from reading the news. Most people are not nearly as racially hateful as you would think from what you'll see on TV. There are issues in certain parts of the country, but in many other parts, people are very nice and accepting. There's a reason the U.S. is known as the most empathetic country in the world. People will diss us until a natural disaster occurs and then they'll complain that we have not sent aid fast enough.Comment -

#55Give me Miami Beach from Sept-May and Santa Barbara or Carmel the rest of the year. Why not live close to a nice beach, enjoy beautiful weather and people, and not deal with the uglier aspects of society/humanity. I prefer to remove ugliness: people working hard, struggling financially, crime, mundane weather and geography, conventional simple minded suburbanites are all things I seek to avoid.Comment -

I'll take Palm Beach County just north of Miami. Way less crowded and less crime.Comment -

#59I've been to Miami and I took an afternoon stroll on the beach before the Orange Bowl game between PSU/FSU... I saw dozens of aspects of society/humanity that I did not want to see... mostly, 300 pound nude latina women with breasts down to their knees chasing after their 19 kids.
No thanks.
You sure you weren't playing Miami of Ohio?
SOuth Beach is nothing like this. In fact from Daytona Beach all the way down to Key West is nothing like this.Comment -

#61I saw what I saw. I had a black friend with me and even he thought it was nasty so that confirms that it must have been pretty bad because black guys will usually hit fat women with big tittays. Or so I hear. Honestly, I don't remember what hotel or what area in particular we stayed in, but we were 15 minutes from the Orange Bowl. It wasn't a heavily populated beach at the time... it was early afternoon... if you really think it doesn't ever happen, you're crazy. Because I was there once, and it happened. 1-1. 100%Comment -

#63I lay on the beach, run or walk along it, and bike around Miami Beach 150-200+ days a year, seldom do you see anything but the finest tail in the world. It is without a doubt the sexiest beach in the US, and maybe second to some Brazilian beaches in the world. It is an international destination full of Italian, French, Carribean island nationals, and some of the finest South American women in the world. Most models per capita in the world. If you spent a few weeks you would realize this is easily the sexiest place in American and the nicest beaches with incredible winter weather, literally 75 and sunny every day without rain.Comment -

#68The redneck Riveria is fun. Never have I been to a place with soo many drunken whores who won't hestitate to go home at closing time and grind. I spent several spring breaks through summers end at the Boardwalk Beach Resort in Panama City. I was literally drunk by noon daily and chasing strange nightly, good redneck times especially for heavy drinkers and womanizers.
For a more refined beach experience Miami Beach is your ticket. Winters are much much nicer as well. The women are much prettier in Miami Beach, not as easy to pick up, but well worth the extra effort if you are a conniseur of fine wordly ass. It is an international smorgasbord of fine tail, with enough drunkiness to facilitate whoring.
I agree with Palm Beach being nicer overall, but it is less young and transitory and doesnt have the international vibe of south beach. To avoid the petty crime that is rampant off of and around Lincoln Rd in south beach, just stick to south of 5th st, more residential and no crime or bums loitering.Comment -
