TEAM TOTAL - Oklahoma OVER 44
I got to believe that Oklahoma has to be the most up-tempo team in the league. When the coach does not even want you to high five because that slows you down you know that they take this tempo thing pretty serious. I just did the calculations and as no surprise here are the top 5 teams in terms of offensive plays run.
Oklahoma – 80.4
Houston – 79.7
Southern Miss. – 79.4
TCU – 78.6
Oregon – 77.7
Oklahoma has been over 500 yards in each game this season against 1-A teams with the exception of the #1 rated defense of TCU and Texas. These teams currently rank #1 and #2 in the nation in rush defense. It’s not like these teams shut the Sooner's down as they gained 400+ total yards in each game.
Kansas St. is ranked #105 in team defense. In two games against teams with better offenses this season the Wildcats did not fair very well as Texas Tech torched them for 626 total yards and Louisville put up 577 total yards. Even Texas A&M and UL Lafayette each gained 500+ on this Wildcat defense.
Should the Sooner’s get out to a big lead and work the clock by running the ball the Wildcats sport one of the worst rush defenses in the league yielding 190 yards per game. Throw out the first two stiffs on the Wildcat’s schedule and they are allowing opponents to rush for an average of 5.2 yards per attempt. Included in those 5 games is Texas Tech, which does not like to run the ball.
The only thing that I can see stopping the Sooner offense is weather or themselves. The weather forecast for Saturday is suppose to be excellent conditions and the Sooner’s only have turned the ball over six times this season which is tied for 2nd fewest in the league. Also the Sooner defense has been less than stellar lately so I’m sure the Wildcats can put up a few points which will cause OU to keep their foot on the pedal.
