This can include any professional league (USFL, XFL, NFL, AFL, etc)

My vote is the the Houston Gamblers of the old USFL.

how can't you love that team name.

How about the Brooklyn Bridgegrooms? They played the American Association in 1888 and 1889, and the National Legaue from 1890 until 1898. In 1899 they changed their name to the Brooklyn Superbas, in 1914 the Brooklyn Robins, and in 1932 the Brooklyn Dodgers.

Anaheim Angels. I know they aren't defuct, but they need to lose the Los Angeles of part.

I also miss the Minnesota North Stars.

The Superbas is really a great name. Can you imagine if that had survived the team through it's history? Would Bobby Thomson have been able to hit a home run off a team named the Superbas?

The old Ft. Worth Cats of the Texas League is another dead team. They've revived the team name in a newer independent league.

The first team that came to mind for me is the Quebec Nordiques. This is slightly odd because I hated them. They were a bitter rival of my team, The Habs.

For anyone who doesn't know: they went on to become the Colorado Avalanche and won a Stanley Cup their first year after the move (and then again 5 years later).

I also miss the Winnipeg Jets. I wasn't a big fan but, like Quebec, they were a market with a lot of true Canadian hockey fans. The team meant so much to the community. Unfortunately the market size just wouldn't let it work.

The Jets are now the Phoenix Coyotes.

ah yes, the Winnipeg Jets. they were the first team that created the "white out" crowd type atmosphrere.

I should definitely also mention the Montreal Expos. They provided a lot of thrills in the Steve Rogers/Andre Dawson/Tim Raines/Gary Carter era - just before the Blue Jays started to find life.

I'll probably always remember where I was on "Blue Monday."

In particular I recall a trip to Olympic Stadium for a key series against Steve Carlton and the Phillies in the early 80's. The place was packed for every game. Younger people who only saw them near the end might not believe how that place could be.

I also remember a lot of irresponsible behavior on the part of me and my friends that weekend. But the baseball was great.

no arguements from me at all ricky.

it was really sad to see that strike happen during that season with that expos team.

look at all those all-stars they had on that team.... wow! that was a team that the boss would have paid 200 million on easy. i believe that entire payroll at the time was under 15 million too.
