Am I the only one who'd never heard of this term as a slur?
Cop might be fired for calling Carl Crawford a ''monday''

#43Cops don't get paid nearly enough. Most are good guys. They put their lives on the line everyday and chance never seeing their families again only to be crapped on, disrespected, and ridiculed by people that would cower if they ever had to spend a day in their shoes.
To make a villain out of a veteran officer who may have heckled a player at a sporting event is a disgrace. This ultra PC, knee-jerk reactionary public and the American news media are absolutely sickening. Also, whoever reported this officer for the silly term he uttered is a bitch.Comment -

#48Actually hammerhead, I come from a family of law enforcement and I know what it's like to fear a knock on the door. Cops don't get enough respect, for a guy to be investigated for "heckling" at a sporting event while off-duty seemingly confirms that. Setting all of that aside, he allegedly called him..... "monday"....Originally posted by SteelRainwe get it

#55Why do you think an off-duty cop should be held to such impossibly high standards that heckling at a sports event is grounds to perhaps be terminated and lose his pension? It's like the expectation is for an off-duty cop to conduct himself like the President of the US. You serious here? People cry over their sports teams losing, they get into meaningless fights with other fans and occasionally hurl expletives, and in this case, a day of the week, toward athletes.Originally posted by MatIMembers of my family are in the police force as well. Is it really that big of a deal? Did he in any way abuse his authority by heckling an athlete while off-duty? Did anyone even realize this was an officer of the law (besides the whistle-blower) and therefore expect him to behave in a manner "becoming of an officer" as the report cites?Comment -

#58I think it is very harsh. But i'm not the one trying to claim his comments were just 'heckling'. It is a little more severe then that. With you still calling his insult just a 'day of the week' shows you are just being deliberately obtuse. You may be too simple to know what the insult means, but it is obvious the cop new exactly what it means.Originally posted by SBR LouWhy do you think an off-duty cop should be held to such impossibly high standards that heckling at a sports event is grounds to perhaps be terminated and lose his pension? A cop will always be held to account if he does something which turns into negative press. I don't set the rules, it is just the way it is. And if you actually read the news articule you would see it isn't the first time he has made racist remarks. Seems it is three strikes and your out.Comment -

#63Yeah, it is a big deal to me actually. Racism has no place in a civil society. Police officers are role models and should be looked up to. The officer in question also has a history of racism. Oh, that's right, he was just "heckling" a ball player. And the whistle-blower by the way was Carl Crawford.Originally posted by SBR LouWhy do you think an off-duty cop should be held to such impossibly high standards that heckling at a sports event is grounds to perhaps be terminated and lose his pension? Believe it or not, SBR use to be a much more serious forum back when it first started. It's since disintegrated to almost exclusively political talk where conservative posters (who hold the minority opinion by the way) scream so loud and repeat the same nonsense assertions over and over no matter how irrational it is to anyone and everyone. A lot of guys on here believe Obama was born in Kenya or Indonesia and think he is a socialist even though they haven't the faintest clue what socialism is and completely ignore the fact that Obama is your basic cardboard conservative Democrat who represents the same institutions that promote war, poverty, oppression, and economic inequality as their Republican heroes do. You can't really talk with people like that.
My advice to the more enlightened posters on here is to just ignore them and take amusement in their ignorance.Comment -
