Please educate me about Pascals Wager. I have a couple questions about it too... out of all the THOUSANDS of DIFFERENT Religions... which one does Pascals Wager apply to? Does it only apply to the popular religions? Or does it apply to all the religions just as long as you believe in some form of nonsense? For instance, lets say I worship a Leprecorn(half Leprechaun half Unicorn) and this Leprecorn is my God. I praise him on a daily basis for all the good in my life. Will I get into heaven? I know you probably think I'm silly and only a complete moron would worship a Leprecorn since they don't exist(it doesn't matter if there's not a shred of evidence for Leprecorn's. I have faith in Leprecorns). But what if you were taught to worship Leprecorn's since you were a child and more than half the population worshiped Leprecorns. Now would it be silly? Christianity believes in Virgin Births and Talking Snakes BUT THAT'S NOT SILLY! IT'S REAL! Right?

Considering you still have a Heritage account that shows you that their management has you in the group that believes in god and still waiting for the miracle to happen. You keep licking their boots and drinking their bath water. I'm sure their enjoying your frequent deposits, while giving you the free contests, free with draw and occasional free play to make it think that you are special.

Ah, logic games - one of my favorite things.

I am familiar with Pascals Wager. However, I always felt the premise was faulty. In any logic game, the way the question is worded means everything.

For basic purposes, lets use SBR terms.

          Pascal Wager premise:

Belief in god = +ev (you have nothing to lose and everything to gain)
Don't believe in god= -ev (you have everything to lose and nothing to gain)
(i.e. the belief in god has value as a bet)

If we are to assume this as correct, we would have to accept a variety of things beyond just the existence of god. And as JohnGalt (awesome name) pointed out, we would have to define god.

Now, my post was specifically related to god and god in terms of an after life. If we assume that belief in god also means belief in an afterlife - then we can simply say that those that believe in god believe that your life on earth isn't the end.

That opens up a whole new can of worms.

Simply stated - pascals wager is in its simplest form - simple. The problem is this: if you believe in god - yet act a fool on earth, do you still get into heaven? If you do not believe in god, yet act morally on earth - do you not get into heaven? That line of thinking can extend much too far to be dealt with in a single post. But, at the end - if we accept some form of that line of thinking, where exactly is the wager again?

Point being, I find it much more satisfying as a person to believe that god does not exist. Or better stated, that there is no afterlife.

Your premise is wrong again. Only made one deposit there. I like a lot of Books, Heritage is just one of them. Can't imagine why someone would hate on this A Book so much. As far as God, to each his own. However, all things considered, I don't think Hawking is the sole authority in this area and those that disagree with him don't deserve to be labeled morons.

Chaulky, have you ever researched the after life? There are TV shows out the ying yang, from psychics, people
who flat lined stories and ghost stories all over the discovery and A & E channels.

I especially like Long Island Medium and when John Edwards and James Van Praagh were on TV.
They convey from the other side to the person in question, stuff only the person being read would
know. Skeptics have been shut up on the spot.

If you had a loved one die and don't believe in the after life, for shits and giggles (and $300) go see
                  a psychic.
