SBR Bash Horse Racing Contest - Win your share of $500 in cash!

General Rules:
- Eight races will be selected for the contest by Friday, August 17. A sheet listing them will be available at Friday night's SBR Bash reception. We will provide the entries, morning-line odds, and an early version of the past performances.
- You will make $4 in real-money wagers at the Golden Nugget Sports Book per race in the form of two $2 tickets. Each of the pair must be a *different* horse and a *different* wager type of either win, place, or show.
(Example: Race 3 at Saratoga, $2 to win on #4, $2 to place on #6)
- Tickets will be collected between 11am-1pm PT in the Golden Nugget Sports Book at an identified area by Reload or another designee of SBR. Races will take place at this span of time, allowing you to check the latest odds before buying your tickets.
- Tickets will be checked upon submission to ensure the betting requirement is met. A separate envelope for each participant will be kept, storing their tickets. You must submit your tickets prior to the race starting, or at least be in line/approaching Reload with the tickets as the race goes off.
- The three participants returning the most money with their wagers win 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes respectively. Your tickets will be returned to you after results are tallied for you to cash them in at the sports book.
- Wagers involving scratched horses will have the $2 ticket refunded to your overall tally.
- You must make bets in at least 6 of the 8 races to be eligible for contest prizes.
- Must be an SBR Pro to participate.
- Winners will be announced as soon after 1pm PT as possible. With this format, we are sensing the grading should take minimal time.
- Any decisions not covered in the rules made by SBR are final.
FAQ:
- Why do we have to use real betting tickets? Wouldn't just filling out a sheet with horse numbers and dropping it off be easier? Is this so SBR_John gets a cut of everyone's losses somehow?
->> Answer: This is Las Vegas we're in, baby! We only want real-money gamblers participating, who are dedicated enough. Remember, your $32 in wagers let you keep your winnings - you can bet the favorite to show in every race if you want most of your money back.
- What if I am banging a chick in my room and can't make it down by 11am PT? What if my "massage" is scheduled for the same time or I am out riding around in a limo then? Can I hand in my betting tickets from the Golden Nugget Sports Book any earlier? Can I send a proxy on my behalf?
->> Answer: "Tough titty," said the kitty. Keep banging that chick and use the $32 for room service instead. We want this contest to have an interactive feel to it and that means showing up at the specified hours. Per the rules, you can miss betting two of the races if you arrive a little late.
- If all the races are between 11am-1pm PT and that's the only time you are collecting tickets, when am I expected to cap the races? I am a big-time expert in horses and would win this easily if I had more time. Aren't the races going to go off too close together?
->> Answer: As stated, we are making the races known on Friday night and providing as much detail as possible then. You can spend all of Friday night and breakfast time on Saturday in your private cabana at the pool capping the races. Yes, the races will be happening at a turbo pace during the 11am-1pm time so you'll have to act fast if you want to make late wagers. You should be ready to hand in tickets for several races at a time, if timing requires it.
- What if I buy my tickets for a race from the sports book and the race starts before I get to the big line at Reload's chair to hand him the tickets?
--> Answer: You are OK there - As long as you are not shut out and the sports book writes tickets on the race and you are at least in line approaching Reload with the tickets as the race starts.
- Do I have to be present the whole time from 11am-1pm PT?
->> Answer: As long as you have submitted your tickets for all eight races, you are not required to stick around. You can submit tickets for all races at 11am if you want to - or, you can take it more seriously by watching the odds, watch the races, and continue returning with tickets for different races throughout the 11am-1pm timeframe. The intent is that most of your capping would be done ahead of time and that the 11am-1pm slot would be used for checking the latest odds on your race, confirming any scratches, etc. as you buy your tickets.
- Won't the 11am-1pm PT timeframe for races result in tracks only from the east coast being used? Won't it just be a lot of maiden-claiming clunkers instead of big stakes races? I'm a Del Mar expert and would fare better if the big time feature race of the day from there was included.
->> Answer: We will try our best to have a variety of tracks, but yes, the early timeframe of the afternoon limits us to mostly Saratoga, Monmouth, etc. And yes, brush up on those maiden claimers while you bang that chick in your room.
- Will the contest standings be known about during the races? Will I know how far behind I am so I know to bet long shots in the last two races?
->> Answer: Most of the grading will not happen until the races conclude at 1pm PT and we will not be making any results known during the contest. If you know you've not cashed any tickets in the first six races, you might want to go for longer odds. We will try to arrange timing of the races so most of them occur in the middle of the time block, leaving a bit of breather room before the last 1-2 races.
- Is there any cap on payouts? I hate when people hit long shots in a tournament and bury everyone else - it doesn't prove that they are a good capper.
--> Answer - There will be no cap on payouts, with this being a real-money contest. If you bet $2 to win on a 50-1 shot, you just won $100 in addition to potential tourney cash winnings.
- I don't know anything about horse racing but I want to be in on this! Can I ask Reload for help in picking winners for the races while he is sitting there?
--> Answer: No but we heard Loshak sells a pretty hot tip sheet. He will be up on the 17th floor in his Gold Club suite. Seriously - we will try to provide picks/analysis from the DRF or Equibase if available at the time you pick up the list of races and their detail.
