Anyone play Baccarat?

Asian guy at the bar says he's been winning big at baccarat lately. I asked him his secret and laughed and didn't say. Either he's cheating or he has a good strategy. Is there actually a good strategy or is he lying or cheating? I'm a craps and blackjack guy never really got into baccarat.

Some people claim you can count on baccarat but I have yet to see a credible article on that subject. Until I do, I play banker every time. House edge is a little less.

Asians love it because many consider it a game of luck, its not rare to see players either win big or lose big. Doubt he has some secret way to win long term.

You can count cards to play about breakeven long term in baccarat.

Not terrible if you like casino comps, but not the best alternative either.

Casino card dealer here and i gamble a lot. I play baccarat a lot too. In baccarat you are playing close to a coin flip. The only thing you are gonna lose is 5 percent juice on banker bets. The reason why you see people risk so much money on bac is because you get to choose whether you win or lose. You are betting on the outcome of the two hands. Tie you push, unlike roulette if it hits green and you bet red or black you obviously lose. If you play black jack and i deal you a 20 and i get 21 then your shit out of luck. You had no option to bet on my hand before i dealt the cards. You can only bet on your hand and your hand only. You see a lot of asians play it because it is really popular in china and vietnam. They all have different ways of playing the game but pretty similar. Hope this kinda helps.

Oh yes. And counting cards dont do anything. The hitting procedures make it so that even if you had a certain starting hand the next card that is dealt dont mean anything. You cant predict whether one side will take the low or high card or both sides or no sides. In blackjack you count to get a good starting hand 20 or bj. Here 8 and 9 is a good hand and there is endless combinations to make a an 8 or a 9. Example a/8, 2/7, 3/6, 4/5, 10/9, J/9, Q/9, K,9, A/7, 2/6, 3/5, 4/4, 10/8, J/8, Q/8, K/8. And that is just the startin hands now if you had small cards and needed hits it creates an unpredictable Outcome

That is incorrect. There are not "endless combinations." The deck/shoe is finite, and the removal of certain cards helps the banker while the removal of other cards helps the player - precisely BECAUSE of "hitting procedures."

Monkey you got a link for this theory? I can see counting in baccarat being way easier because of all the chain-smoking Asians taking forever to make their bet. I can even see me picking up one those stupid cards to keep track of the count lol.

i made $5k from baccarat, excluding my starting amount of $130 as of august 7th and yesterday i reached the $5k milestone. it can be done....i might make a thread on it.... in the casino forum. i currently have a thread in the tennis forum, my goal is to get to 10k, i should be there in under 14 days easily at this rate . if i reach it, i might start another thread of 10k to 100k . baccarat is far easier to win in than blackjack (shuffle machines) - good luck though.

Low house edge on the game (lower than even a line bet in craps). I enjoy playing mini-bac. Much lower limits then regular baccarat and way less intimidating.

One of the sickest, tilting games you can ever play. I've witnessed a family friend lose a couple of condos in one night... eventually lost his wife & children, and his mistress left him once he was completely dry. It's a soul-crushing game, stay away.
