    Selling my hockey cards
Damn this is a sad moment. Years and years of collecting all of these awesome jersey and autograph cards and I'm finally breaking up my collection. Keeping my absolute favorites, but still lots of great ones going away.

Was going to do an SBR.tv video for their memory, but figured no one would care enough to watch it, haha.

Any of you ever go through something like this, selling your card collections that you have so many great memories of?

Must have got buried today by books. Keep them, ace. Pass them down to your children or grand children. No reason to get rid of them.

Link? There are many varieties of this card... you may not be looking at one with three different jersey cuts numbered to 10.

No way at all to tell... Beckett doesn't price cards that are numbered so low. I have only 1 of 10 of these in the world... So needless to say the price range is completely dependent on when I sell it and who sees it on ebay.

That isn't close to my best card... These two are pretty damn cool...

Not a big market for any cards anymore, it is a dead business and add up the and worldwide economy your not going to get that much for them anymore.

As JJ was saying...card business is dead. Not sure if it will ever come back. Seems like collectors are so obsessed with other types of memorabilia these days.

Maybe you will find the right guy USC that just has to have the collection and will pay a lot but if not, I would just hang on to them. They are probably worth more to you than you will be able to sell them for.

For new shiny crap you are correct. Pre War High grade, graded cards have not lost a step, 3 different auctions just realized over 3.5 million each. High grade Pre War doesn't drop, to many whales into that market.

                                  A few reasons...

First of all, I'm keeping my best cards of the game's best. What I'm selling are cards that are going to go lose value over time, not gain it. For example, an Alex Tanguay jersey card. He is a very good player, but are people in 20 years going to know who he is? Doubtful. But I'm keeping the Roy, Brodeur, Modano, Sakic, etc.

Secondly, I don't want to collect anymore, but I am a perfectionist. I hate that my collection is gathering dust with so many great new stars entering the league every year. But I don't have the money anymore to spend on cards, and when I DO have the money someday, I'd rather spend it on something else. Therefore I'd rather keep my collection of 50 or so incredible cards and sell the hundreds of "decent" ones.

Third, its hockey season and Christmas is coming up. I've had lots of success selling cards at this time of year, especially in Canada. I just feel I can get the most for them now.

Lastly, a perfect example of why I'm selling for those of you that know hockey is Jose Theodore. He had that one season back in 01-02 2.11 GAA / .931 SV% and everyone was heralding him the next big thing in hockey. I have so many awesome cards of him that were selling through the roof at the time. Now? He absolutely sucks. And his cards are worthless.

Bertuzzi is another example. Pre-Moore attack, the guy was a well respected power forward, one of the best in the game, 1/3 of the best line in hockey at the time Naslund/Bertuzzi/Morrison. After that, no one wants his cards anymore and his game has declined drastically.

I'm selling BEFORE these cards lose their value.

I'm burried on life, but not by the books

Besides, this isn't a knee-jerk reaction, something I've been considering for a long while.

Keep your eye on Bertuzzi USC. This guy will have a come back year.

We had a nice chat and he said son remember when you collected those dam hockey cards and used them in your tire spokes on your bicycle? I said yes. He said well it's a good thing you never used your Gretzky cards because you have 10 in mint condition that I found in a storage box in the basement. I have lots of other ones as well.
