If the Detroit Tigers Lose The Central Division - Considered A Major Upset/Disaster?
I believe the Detroit Tigers opened up the year at -500 or -550 to win the American Central Division. One of the largest lopsided wagers in baseball history at the beginning of the year. Even the N.Y. Yankees never were -500 favorites out of the East because of a decent Boston squad.

Currently you can get Detroit at:

    The Greek +120
    5Dimes +135
    Pinnacle +142

Your thoughts for the 2nd half of the year? Can Detroit do it?

Their pitching has not been as good as people though it would be

Prince Fielder hasn't really produced the numbers his contract thought he would produce

Lineup up and down has been disappointing

BUT, they are only 3.5 out and I think the White Sox are just playing well right now, but the Tigers if they can put it together should still win that division

i doubt Detroit does it, their pitching is sub par, Verlander is not having as dominant a year

Honest question, who ever thought that rotation would be good? They have verlander and dog shit, I thought they heavily overachieved last year.

People thought Fister, Scherzer, and Porcello were good I guess

They aren't bad but aren't amazing either... they are all solid #3 guys.

i live about 35 miles from the stadium. a lot of talk here about the tigers and them maybe not winning the central. even with the extra wild card, we need to win our division if we want to play in october. the next 2 weeks will be crucial. we have one of the toughest 2nd part of season. i think they end up winning it by 3 or 4 games.

Still can't manufacture runs. Top two hitters Berry and Jackson will regress and strike out far too much. Very poor at moving runners, sac bunts, don't run much. Lineup strikeout prone.

Catchers can't throw out a fukkin runner to save their lives. Infield defensive range is knee to knee.

They will mash in the 2nd half. Young and Peralta were heating up at the break. Rayburn a second half player.

Keys will be Fister and Porcello.

White Sox are way better on the bump and do the little things well. Best infield defense and overall pitching in the division. Just enough sticks to win. If the kids Quintana and Sale hold up and Danks is any good at all they will probably win. Lefties do well against most of the division.

Lets see what happens here at the deadline but for now I am quite happy with my position on Chicago to win division and Detroit under 90.5.

It's an excellent question. As a Tiger's fan, I still believe they can win the division. But the White Sox have to cool off.

The problem this year has been in pitching and defense. They are not as strong up the middle as they were in seasons past. And it si not a good business model to expect to win game by score of 7-5 or 5-3. Pitching and defense wins titles.

SOX COULD PUT A HURT ON THEIR CHANCES TONIGHT...

After taking the opener in their crucial four-game series with Detroit, the AL Central-leading Chicago White Sox can move four up on their closest challenger for the first time all season with another win over the second-place Tigers.

Absolute disaster. Have a future on them, that I planned to easily hedge come playoffs. As playoffs were seemingly guaranteed by the Tigers in that shit ass division.
