At the time I thought having Miller on Monday night football was the coolest most experimental thing I'd ever seen in sports broadcasting or on TV at all for that matter. But, I was just watching the video below for a while and the whole thing looks pretty lame now:

If you compare the following parody to the actual game above, it's exaggerated but it's not that far off really:

      This is amazing:

"Miller demonstrated a knowledge of the game and its personalities, although at times he tended to lapse into sometimes obscure analogy-riddled streams of consciousness similar to the "rants" of his standup comedy act. ABC even set up a Web page dedicated to explaining Miller's sometimes obscure pop culture references."

when he was on air I called it the stupidest shit I'd ever seen... well, aside from some kind of animal being put in a presidency

altho these failed Dungeon & Dragon dike-fiends that ESPN puts on the air for some college football and hoops.... makes me think about executing ugly dikes with a machete.... so that the hot dikes in the world will have better percentages in the world

Miller sucked! I had to mute the game to be able to watch it.

he sucked because it became the 'what stupid incomprehensible phrase is this muppet going to come up with next'? Sort of thing and less about talking about football.

A guy like Bob Eucker was funny because his little stories and even on the fly metaphors never seemed rehearsed. (plus he played the game and never gave the impression he was trying to be smarter than anyone else)

Miller, an established comic who hadn't sold his soul (yet) forced his jokes and sounded like he was racing to try and get them in. He actually is practically a historian for NFL - but that never came out. I'm sure over time, he would have gotten better, but MNF is not exactly the place to test out multi layered metaphors or references to the Mesopotamian era.
