    OT - the movie Rocknrolla
FYI - this is the new Guy Ritchie comedy about the London criminal underground, supposedly carrying on the tradition of Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Is something going on with this? I was looking forward to its release for quite awhile and I made plans to see it last night - and it turns out it is on in exactly 1 theater in the whole Greater Toronto Area.

I realize it's not a blockbuster like a new Star Wars or something, but I wouldn't have thought it was this obscure. 1 screen?

They reviewed it on "At The Movies" last weekend which makes me think it should be one of the top 4 or 5 new releases. Jeremy Piven has been plugging it on Letterman and such.

What's going on? Is it like this everywhere? Am I the only person who has an interest in it?

    I'm giving this a bump.

Not sure if the lack of response is my answer or it just got lost in the interruptions.

Well obviously no one cares much about this topic but I will go ahead and tie a neat little ribbon on it anyway.

It did finally come out in wide release and I went and saw it last night.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think people who liked Snatch and Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels will be pleased to find this in the same vein.

It seems obvious that Guy Ritchie is hoping for a sequel. I hope that comes true. I'm not sure if the commercial results would warrant it though. With the weird trickling release, I don't think it made a ton of money.

Then again Guy Ritchie has Madonna's money so I suppose he can make a sequel if he damn well pleases.

Mudcat is this true? About it being in only 1 theatre?

There is one near Yonge and Eglinton where I live, that's where I saw it.

Had no idea that was the only one.

          Was a pretty good movie.

I saw clips of this.....for me this is a definite must see...
He did some other flick where they played poker, I forgot the title but it was pretty good...RockNrolla looks even better than that.

I really want to see this movie as well...Like you said, it has been difficult to find a place to actually watch it. I am hoping that it comes out in wider release still or I will just wait till it goes to DVD...

              Thanks for the review!

It was only on at The Varsity back when I made that first post Oct.18. And it stayed that way for a couple weeks. But it came out in wide release last week. So we had a bunch of places to chose from yesterday.

I assume other cities have followed the same pattern with the wide release coming last weekend.

You may be referring to Snatch where Benicio Del Toro is in some good poker scenes.

Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if there was some poker in other Guy Ritchie movies. He keeps coming back to familiar themes. Guns, gambling, drugs, violence, scams.

Come to think of it, there was some poker playing in Rocknrolla at times.

I feel good about recommending this movie on this forum. I get into some more artsy stuff that a lot of people probably don't care about but this seems like good meat-and-potatoes stuff for the forum crowd.

I will see it eventually. I liked and own Lock Stock and Snatch. Prolly wont see it in theaters, I hate the movie theater.
