well most make the minimum ( a lil under 500k) for the first 3-4 years. no matter how good they are,then they can get arbitration in years 4,5,6 then they can sign anywhere as a FA

but a team owns a rookie's rights for 6 years after they debut in the majors. and don't pay them shit for 3 yrs
