Are the Rockets considering overpaying Lin to cement themselves as "China's team"?
"A report in The New York Post, citing a league source, said the Rockets were planning to offer Lin a backloaded deal worth roughly $30 million. According to the same source, the deal would pay Lin $5 million in the first season, $5.2 million in the second, and then would increase to as much as $10 million per year in the third and fourth seasons."

The Houston Chronicle is reporting that the Rockets launched their all-out press to land guard Jeremy Lin by making a contract offer to last season's breakout star on Wednesday night.

In the days of Yao the Rockets were on national TV in China practically every week and with Lin it would probably be the same. I think they'd be overpaying massively with this deal. At times against the elite teams Lin didn't look like he belonged on the court, he's not close to an elite player imho and doesn't look close to a $10 million/year player to me.

However, as an overall business move, this is brilliant by the Rockets.

Difference is that Yao Ming was a top ten player during his career.

Can you come up with a better explanation for this big contract offer then I did. Do you agree that the Rockets seem to be overpaying? If they're overpaying then there must be some rationale, what is it?

With all the Lin-sanity shirts in the clearance rack at Kohl's, I don't think it would be worth it.

They have conceded their goal of becoming a contender via trade/FA, so they are going to sell their souls to the Asian market for profit. I do not see Linsanity taking off again unless Rockets make it to playoffs.

Hmmm good point. Kidd essentially takes Baron Davis's role then. And we all know where Baron sat most of the season and it wasn't anywhere on the court.
