I can see where the higher ups, and some players don't like it. You have a hard time hearing the ball hit the racket, and it can be damn annoying. They were talking about how old school players like Navratilova cannot stand it. I guess they feel that it has gotten bad enough where they are saying the line judge will have a noise monitor on the court to see if it gets too loud.

On a personal note though, I enjoy it myself. Closest I've gotten to hearing orgasmic grunts in about 10 years.

Media is really the only reason this is still talked about. It's been a hinderance for a decade with most of the wenches who are playing now. The majority of them are 100% using it to mask the sound of the ball off the racket. If you watch enough of all the grunters, you can either see them in practice or at times on-court during matches where they do not grunt. So it is not some uncontrollable shit. It's annoying, but for me I have gotten used to it - only people it really sucks for are the opponents, but I am sure most of them have adapted whether they like it or not.

It's not too annoying with the men, since they kind of just exhale, but the women like Azarenka who scream "WHOOOOO!!!!" with every swing is incredibly irritating. Azarenka is the worst offender, or at least the most annoying, IMO. The other women at least just kind of make a high pitched grunt and the noise, while still bothersome, isn't nearly as bad as Azarenka's 3 second long "WHOOOO......"
