Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal Dead at Age 79
Updated: Oct 14, 2008 05:56 PM PDT
One of the most infamous characters in Las Vegas history has died. Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal was a former gaming executive and a long time mob associate.
He was portrayed in the movie Casino by Robert Deniro.
Rosenthal ran the Stardust for the mob in the 1970's. That ended when the Nevada Gaming Board found out he didn't have a license.
He survived an assassination attempt in 1982.
Reports say he died of a heart attack in his Florida home Monday. Rosenthal was 79-years-old.

#25I remember reading a book about Jack Molinas and I have gotten an impression that in the late 50's Rosenthal was running Chicago's operations which was national sportsbook "clearing house" of sorts at the time. I never figured he was that young, truly remarkable...Comment -
