I'm not in the US so I cannot really answer that.

I do know that receiving a US Dollar transfer in Canada is costly, they perform the conversion and then pay out in Canadian Dollars, the exchange rate spread is brutal, I avoid receiving payouts using Moneygram or Western Union, very expensive. I use these services for sending money only.

For me, Moneybookers is the best option for receiving US Dollars.

I have NEVER had any problems with MoneyGram at all. Like BBD said, its like an alternate Western Union service.
