He pitched well in his last start, and all of his starts have usually come on short notice and he is on a limited pitch count. Hence the high ERA, he gives up 3 runs in 4 or 5 innings and gets pulled. He has been the definition of spot starter but is taking on a bigger role now that 2 guys are on the DL, so he will be able to pitch longer and work more on being a starter than a reliever.

Plus its not like the Diamondbacks starter tonight is much better

But of course if the Diamondbacks or whatever team called up some awful AAA pitcher to throw against the Rangers, he'd throw 7 shutout innings and induce an equal mix of swinging strikeouts, lazy fly balls/popups and weak grounders. And the leadoff runner would never reach base.

They hit so well in the first 3 weeks of the season that the stats are inflated. Over the past 7 weeks they are hitting .228 as a team
