Most of the stuff being posted is from highly partisan sources known for twisting the facts. It's not helping.

          what do you care?

Why does it bother you that people are discussing politics? If someone posts a bunch of crap there are people here to rebut, and it makes for a lively discussion.

Freedom of speech is a good thing. Maybe you'll learn something.

This forum is centered around gambling, which is why I'm here.

I can go other places to be spammed with annoying and biased political crap.

Big Brother vs. Joe the Plumber (and the rest of us)

Americans should be up in arms.

Joe Wurzelbacher, a private citizen, asks a question of a presidential candidate about his proposed tax policy. This gets captured on video, follow-ups ensue. Turns out that when Joe talks, a big chunk of America listens.

This was Joe's crime. The punishment: investigations, at least on the part of the liberal media, and perhaps on the part of the Obama campaign, into Joe's tax records, voter registration, professional certifications, union membership, and who knows what else.

Let's remember that Mr. Wurzelbacher is a private citizen who hasn't been charged with a crime, who is not running for public office and thus being "vetted" (aka, smeared, a la Sarah Palin) by the press.

Can this not have a chilling effect on free speech? Would you be willing to publicly question a candidate at this point?

So far the dumpster divers have found that he's not licensed. This is especially grievous, because the union bullies have given their support to Obama, who will help "the working man." (Joe is not a working man?) Also, it has been discovered that Joe owes back taxes, though he may not have been aware of this (see below).

Who are these investigators, and how do they sleep at night?

The following dirt has been dug-up about Mr. W:

                  • The emergence of Joe has allowed the state of Ohio to locate the man it says owes $1,182 in back taxes, leading sharp-tongued liberal commentators to say he was not so much concerned about rising taxes as paying taxes at all. (A state spokeswoman said Wurzelbacher may not have known about the lien.)

                  • According to public records, a hospital filed a now-settled 2007 lien against Wurzelbacher for $1,261.

                  • The plumber's union and the city of Toledo are on Wurzelbacher's tail after he acknowledged that he did not have a plumber's license.

"Joe the plumber really isn't a plumber," said Thomas Joseph, business manager of UA Local 50 of the Plumbers, Steamfitters and Service Mechanics Union, whose national membership has endorsed Obama. (Joseph said Wurzelbacher applied for an apprentice program in 2003 but never completed the work.)

Wurzelbacher said he did not need a plumber's license to do residential work with Newell Heating & Plumbing, but David Golis, a Toledo building-inspections official, disputed that. "We were just discussing that we will send a letter to the owner of Newell reminding him" of the city's requirement that all who do plumbing work be licensed or in apprentice or journeyman programs, Golis said.

                  • Finally, Wurzelbacher admitted to reporters that the goal of buying the business was more aspirational than firm.

I love the union's statement that he's not a plumber. How can he be, if he hasn't joined the union, and questions the policies of its candidate?

The question of Joe's "plumberhood" would be relevant if he were a plant, an imposter, not a plumber at all, but rather a greedy CEO or oil magnate posing as a plumber. But this is not the case. Whether the union recognizes it or not, Joe Wurzelbacher is, in fact, a plumber. He plumbs, and he gets paid for it.

More on Joe's persecution for his political speech from the Corner:

RE: Well That Didn't Take Long [Mark Hemingway]

Getting a lot of emails along these lines:

I don't know why I'm e-mailing you, except that I just need to vent to someone on The Corner. Pass this around to the others if you like — I bet I'm not the only one.

I really don't like McCain. I'll probably vote for him just as a vote for divided government. I'm far too libertarian in my leanings to be comfortable with McCain (or Obama, for that matter).

That said, the way the pro-Obama media and bloggers, and Obama himself, have responded to Joe has got me nearly shaking with rage. They are attempting to destroy a man — a private citizen — who had the audacity to ask The One a question. Mind you, Joe was on his front lawn playing football with his son when Obama strolled up to give him his hopenchange spiel. Obama approached Joe, not the other way around. And Joe asked Obama an honest question. And Obama gave him an honest — and very, very revealing — answer. Again, mind you, the embarassment was on Obama's end, not Joe's. It wasn't a gotcha question.

And yet, for that Joe is being pilloried, every aspect of his private and professional life being sorted through and exposed. To prove ... what? What does that have to do with Obama's answer? What does Joe's situation have to do with Obama's philosophical answer — that he wants to "spread the wealth"? Obama's answer goes down the memory hole while the nation concentrates its fire on obliterating Joe the Plumber.

It's sickening, it's maddening and it's downright chilling.

Sorry for the length. But I am just SEETHING.

                  And:

I was at LSAT class tonight and the instructor had the audacity to state that Joe the Plumber is a "lunatic" fit to be paralyzed because he allegedly questioned the merits of social security. The instructor then went on to construct a sample question in which Joe the Plumber is confined to a wheel chair because he has been run down by McCain's 'straight talk express' bus.

Mind you, this professional "educator" graduated from Georgetown, Harvard Law, and Harvard Business. And I'm supposed to be worried about Sarah Palin's lack of an "elite" education?

                  And:

I could care less about Joe's background, whether he's legit, or whether he is a McCain operative. What I do care about is that I could be attacked like a public figure simply for asking a question, like Joe. I am chilled. No longer undecided either.
