New Bias: Women on the Sidelines, Men Only in Booth
This seems to be the revealed gospel for the networks, regarding NFL games.

Women sidelne reporters, but only males in the booth.

Message is: women can't announce or do color commentary, but great for window dressing on sidelines, with mostly simple-minded boilerplate reports and post game questions.

In other words, bias dressed up as "diversity."

It is telling that no women in America is capable of announcing or color commentary. At least, so say (in effect) the networks.

(Yeah, there is Tony Siragusa on the sidelines, like as a sideshow. But no Andrea Kramers et al in the booth.)

Are there any female football announcers - or ever color commentators (NOT commentors of color!) - for any NFL or Div 1A college football, anywhere in the USA?

Were I a shyster, I'd be all over the networks like a cheap suit, with a lawsuit.

Networks then should put them in hot pants.

I don't think she did a good job. Thats why I switched it to another game. Women don't belong in sports, well maybe Erin Andrews for eye candy.

As a female sports writer and NFL picks columnist, I have to say that the women on the NFL sidelines are completely annoying; however, if they asked my to work the booth, I'd be all over that and be much better than the yutzes they have doing it now. I mostly mute those buttheads.

Beats the guys currently in the booth who have an annoying habit of pointing out the obvious, then belaboring that useless point.

                                      Who.... Michaels & Madden?

They're great, actually. Better to be thorough and cover everything than miss everything entirely like Pam Ward does on many occasions. She is so bad, the color commentator has to repeatedly correct/educate her. That's why I don't even watch even when I have a bet on the game.

I mute them all regardless of gender. Who needs them anyway? It isn't like I can't figure out what's going on by myself anyway.

                                              Professional jealousy maybe?

I love listening to legends like Vin Scully call a game...... because I learn something new every inning. Not everyone is as good a storyteller, but I rarely mute anyone because they all contribute something in their own way.... except maybe the idiots that do the White Sox broadcasts. Put it on the board.... yesssssssss! STFU!!!!!!!

sportsgirl definitely knows NFL football. Would be an asset on the network broadcast.

But, she's in journalism, not broadcasting. It's a different specialty. Even if she's very articulate - and I have a feeling she is - it's still different in front of a camera. I know from experience.

But she kinows the game, which most of the ladies who aspire to do it --- don't. Not inside and out, like Nancy does.

There is obviously much bigger $$$ in TV than working for a local medium market paper. (Dailies,as we all know, are a dying enterprise. Losing market, few under 40 read them anymore. I'm over 40, well over, and I don't read them, except maybe USA Today now and then when on a plane.)

So, Nancy, take a cram course in broadcasting at your local college. Then apply for a job doing color for whatever ACC team is in your North Carolina area.

If you can speak, and are comfortable in front of a camera, or a microphone (becuase you will likely, initially, have more luck finding work on radio), you should do well. After a year of that ask CBS and FOX to give you a shot in the broadcast booth.

If they refuse, all us here at this forum, and your friends across the street, wlll send angry emails to the networks, demanding they hire you.

And if all else fails, hire a top gender discrimination mouthpiece to yank millions from the networks.

Once you get your money throw a big bash for all of us in Vegas - during football season, not in the miserable heat of LV in frikken August.

If you get that far - experience in radio, and good marks there - the networks may use as an excuse for not hiring you the fact that this year you are picking "against the spread."

Horror of horrors. Acknowledging that people actually bet on the outcome of these contests!!! OMG, what's the world coming to?

Still, Al Michaels regularly acknowledges the existence of a pointspread. Who know, Al may once in a while put a bet in.

Nancy, is you're still on the board, at least to the end of the SD/NE game, check back in. I - and probably a couple of other posters - will want to ask you a few quick questions to check your knowledge of the game.

Not to criticize, just to see how much you know. No trivia, like who played for who when. Technical stuff. If you miss one or two, no prob, you can study up.

I've been annoyed by this too. If you can do play by play then thats worthwhile. No need for sideline girls. I would like to see a woman do play by play.

Also, the over hyping takes away from the game. Why do you need four commentators in the booth? And I don't need to see the coaches facial expression after every play. Keep the damn camera on the field.

                                                      this is about right:
"Beats the guys currently in the booth who have an annoying habit of pointing out the obvious, then belaboring that useless point."

I would love to have a chick broadcast sports, but don't give me a sucky broadcast... I mean Big 10 network is a joke...espn 2 is a joke half the time, and espn is even bad at times... There are only like 3-4 good sets of broadcasters for college football.
